You gotta be kidding. I just won a 1987 ASC McLaren #391 of 479 on Ebay for $3900 delivered with 72000 miles. Simply ridiculous. 1/3 of these cars are in the junkyard, only 300 still exist, its a 2 seater of which only about 1/3500 Mustangs ever made were. The 1987/1988 style is my favorite, as it has speed density instead of mass air which means you don't need to alter the motor, it fast as is. The only swaps you need are a 355-410 rear gear, pullies, and a serious tune up. These cars have bulletproof motors as long as you leave them as they were meant to be, no nitrous, stupid blowers which work 10 days a year, or thousands spent in engine kits. This car would run low 13s without that stuff, a stick in the high 12s assuming you put some slicks on at the track with the belt off. My thoughts are this is one of the great cars of all time, vastly underated. Barrett-Jackson 2025 is a given, but only 4K right now. Yet there are people out there souping up Civics for more money and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less performance. I don't understand. This car is the GTO of the 1980s and is on the verge of exploding violently upward in price and the rarer the model the better. My recommendations are McLarens, trunk cars known as coupes, t-top cars, and sticks which appear very stock. Modified 1989-1993s are less cars and while 1993 Cobras are likely to do well in the collector circles they cost way more and they are no more of a car than a speed density 87/88 stick because of weight, mass air, and the wrong type of pistons. You can probably buy 2 or maybe three 87s for the price of a 93 Cobra. If you want rarity, the 93 Cobras outnumber 87 Mclarens by more than 10 to 1 and overall Mclarens 87/88/89/90 by almost 3 to 1. This IS the right car to buy.
