Bought a Mustang on eBay 4 months ago. It really comes down to the honesty of the seller. Unfortunately, there is no real way to tell. The rating system was not reliable to me. Perhaps it is getting better now, but like me, I am sure many people are just too reluctant to give others bad ratings. I still think I had a very good deal on my car. Engine is excellent which was my main concern. I would not have been so happy with a bad engine. Got lucky this time. But as far as the rest of the car, I'd make sure to see lots of pictures if I wasn't going to see the car myself, which I'd highly recommend, I've learned that now. Think about it. If you are going to spend thousands of dollars on a car, shouldn't you take the time to go and take a look at it before you commit to buy? The answer is yes. The car may have a very good price, like mine did, but in the end it needed many repairs and worse, so many parts were missing I spent at least as much as the car itself and more on parts alone from various vendors accross the country, having to spend an inordinate amount of time locating expensive parts and pay shipping everytime. It gets long in the tooth. Your local service shop is not going to be able to source too many parts for this car. You'll have to find your own parts. A complete car with the desired options in working order from the get go is what you'll want. There is a difference between restoring a car and building a car from shipped parts.
Enough for the rants, now about the 72 mustang. The 351C-4V is fast. The torque is amazing. But it is a straight line car by today's standards. My 2006 Mustang which I also love, will take corners a whole lot faster. But the visceral rumble and feeling of the 72 makes it a real pleasure to drive. A completely different experience. The 72 is a monster compared to the well mannered and 'domesticated' 06. Don't get me wrong, the o6 can be ferocious, but the 72 is never tame. Either way, life is good in a Mustang. A word of caution to first time Mustang owners; Mustangs often prove to be HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. I am not joking. You have been warned. Cheers!
