What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value Range assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

1966 Ford Mustang: Disappointed in 1966 Mustang

I was very disappointed in the car. The car was found not in the condition as described in the add. Add stated the car "runs great." The car had to be towed home off the highway. The car leaks water, the windows did not stay up, the front tires rub the fender when turning, etc. I was very disappointed and unhappy with this purchase. Lesson learned.

Hello Folks!
Ebay has done a great job with their "advice to buyers" section pertaining to vehicle purchases. Read it carefully, understand it well & follow their advice. The buyer protection policy isn't much good as far as the condition of the car goes BUT it does claim to cover outright theft of your money if you don't get the car at all. That's much better than the early days. It states that not all vehicles are eligible though and after 2 inquiries I have yet to get a straight answer as to what qualifies. I have never paid for one of those inspection services but would consider doing so only on a late model car, only after the sale ends and only if I am the winning bidder. Reasons being, these "inspectors" are not qualified to evaluate a collectable car which is primarily what I have purchased. On a later model car if you have it done pryor to the end of the sale, what if the car brings more than you are willing to pay or does not meet the reserve? Dealers are also more likely to bump the price due to your investment. I have come to expect the seller to lie about some aspects of the car but with a good eye & plenty of clear, detailed & specific photos you can spot most serious issues. I am not shy about asking alot of questions & requesting photos. If you catch them in one inconsistency you can bet there are many more. I also prefer to buy from individuals vs. dealers as an individual MIGHT have somewhat of a conscience whereas a dealer does NOT. Buying a 40+ year old car LOCALLY is also a gamble. This was the 4th car I have purchased through Ebay for 2 reasons: selection & price. Where else could I possibly find a 1966 Mustang Fastback that has the entire drivetrain and electronics from a late model (approx. '90) transplanted into it for $15,000. I don't think I have ever even seen one like this in Georgia. On top of that, it's an origional red/black "R" code California car with the black plates still on!
The biggest deception with this car was with the time table in which the work was done. With the exception of a new battery, fuel pump & clutch all of the stuff (tires, rims, chrome, etc.) that he claimed "new" in the auction were 10+++ years old as evidenced by the receipts that HE SENT ME! As far as I can figure, the car has been driven about 1000 miles in the last 8-9 years so we all know what that means. It obviously was kept inside but has sat for long periods of time. In spite of this the car is solid, runs pretty well, and all the major components still work. I am expecting to spend $2000 or so getting the car to where he claimed it already was. That is why I refuse to pay anymore than the item actually bids up to. By comparison, I think this car could have brought more but he didn't write a very good ad, didn't have many pic's on the ad, and the title for the auction didn't point out any of its most desirable features.
In conclusion, I am overall very pleased with this purchase at $15,000, much more and it would have been questionable. The best advise I can give: BE PATIENT! This car ran in May '07 with a buy it now of $25,000, no sale @ $14,100. Bottom $ was $22,500. I kept looking. It re-ran in August '07 with open bidding, no buy it now. He said reserve was $18,000. Before the auction ended the "lowered reserve" banner was displayed & I bought it for $15,302 in open bidding with no big "rally" at the end of the auction. I could easily have paid $18,000+ for the exact same car from a slicker salesman.

I did not follow through with the purchase due to title/ owner liability situstion. The The auction did not state that the car was not in the sellers's name and since it was 3,000 miles away my attorney recommended that I pass on the vehicle and pay the seller for his relisting, which I did. The seller relisted and sold the vehicle to someone in the same state....who contacted me and told me that the car was not as described in overall condition.

I decided to buy this Mustang because I have been looking for a shelby clone for a long time, it has been my lifetime dream to own a classic mustang. my buying experience with e-bay was excelent but my experience with express auto transport (an e-bay recomended shipping company) was completly horrible in almost every respect. It took double the estimated time to ship it here and when I received it, my 1966 classic Shelby clone was smashed in the rear end with over $10,000.00 in damages to the rear end and the quarter pannels. It was so sevearly damaged that It will be in the shop an estimated 6-8 months. But the car is BEAUTIFUL (from the front) and i could not be happier with the product, its fast and an all around great classic.

The opportunity to purchase your dream car and select it from many options is fantastic. I look very close at the pictures, look at the history of the buyer, follow ebays instructions of what to do and not to do and end up with exactly what I wanted. This time the car was in Canada the seller helped me ship the car, the process was fast and once you get a few answers from the seller you start to get a feeling of what kind of people he is. Questions from other members help a lot too. This is the second car I buy and both times I had a great experience. This was the car I wanted and I felt comfortable buying it in ebay.

I would like to tell everyone that the person who sold me the car wrote that the frame rails were solid to paraphrase. I had this shipped to me and the seller came here. I was shown the car. I found later that the frame has issues after i put it on the lift. In three or more places the frame has to be welded or plated. I contacted the seller about this. I wanted some form of compensation. The seller merely only gave me the advise mainly to ebay the car if I dont like it. He also said look, these cars are fourty some years old. etc.... well, I still believe it when it says the frame rails are strong to paraphrase.

I could have had a good experiance with this car. Instead the seller didnt want to in anyway compensate me for selling me a car that was misadvertised. I would have taken what it would have cost to fix. Instead he gave me no monetary offer and repeated to sell it on ebay. The seller also didnt tell me that the gas tank was patched. THis is less of an issue with me. I knew the gas was bad and i would take it off and clean it. I didnt know it had a hole that was patched.

It would have taken little to work with me on this. I so much wish i could have taken my good feedback at that time and change it. I could have had a good experiance with some understanding. If that was me on the other side of the fence, I would have tried to do something other than to give advise.

If i do ebay it i will disclose all i know on this car. I will take pics of the frame, and all the good and bad of the car. I do understand that mistakes happen. What i dont understand is why he didnt try to offer me at least something to compensate me.

Now, i am with a car i dont want. i havnt worked on it because i still have or had hopes of the seller coming to me saying i will take the car back. a few bucks would have worked too then.

I am discouraged and wondering what to do in the future. Ebay only has the thirty day insurance to fall back on. some cars I have purchased, I have not eben seen in the yard till well after thirty days. Trucking companies are sometimes not easy to get.

I am sorry to give this car, seller and circumstanc a negative report. i bought because i wanted a mustang to restore. I rate my experiance with the seller, not the car. kr

I bought a 1966 Mustang. From the pictures, it looked rough. After I got it home and cleaned it up, I discoverd it was in great shape (for that year model car). The seller bought new parts (still in the box) for the car which she included in the auction. For the price I paid, verses what I received, I feel like I stold the car from her. The seller was WONDERFUL to work with, and I can't think of ANYTHING negative to say about the car, or the transaction.

This was an absolutely steal! I almost didn't believe it, but with the protection provided by Ebay, I went more comfortable.
My husband always wanted a 65/66 Mustang and I was able to give him one for our 10th wedding anniversary.
The sellers personally delivered the car and talked to me, my husband and our children about everything we needed to know about the car. They were very honest, nice people. I would buy anything they had to sell without question.
All I can say is...THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
