What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value Range assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

2004 Honda VTX: 2004 Honda VTX 1800C

Background: My 2004 VTX 1800C was my second VTX and my 3rd Honda. I have approximately 20,000 miles in the saddle on the VTX, so I consider myself a semi-expert on the bike.

Performance: The bike will do 0-60 in a shade under 4 seconds and is not is quick as the 1800F, which has shorter overall gearing. Top end on the bike ranges from 125-135 mph, depending on rider weight, road conditions, and mock up of the bike (windshield, bags, etc.). The bike is great for blasting down the street in between stoplights, and only a handful of stock cars could keep pace with you to the next light; however, make sure there is a next light because in the quarter mile even a lowly Mustang with some juice is going to catch you. The bike will hit the low 12s in the 1/4 mile, but, again, rider weight, riding ability, and mock up of the bike are factors here.

Reliability: Excellent. I never had a single problem on this bike. My previous model, an S variant, had to have a replacement water pump, and it seems about 10% of those bikes had that problem, but that was an '02 model. They cured that and the fouled plugs (the bike ran a little rich early in the model run, according to some) along the '03 model year.

Comfort: Comfort on the C model, which is the original variant of the VTX is only average, but cruisers as a whole are not comfort bikes, so this is not a mark-down or strike against the bike. The bike is built for those about 5'10 -6' tall. If you are shorter, you might be stretched out more than you like and if you're taller, you might find yourself wanting for more leg room. The reach to the bars was perfect for me, and I found the footpegs to be comfortable but only for trips less than a 100 miles. If you're going on the interstate or an extended ride, you'll want floorboards or a heel shelf to support your legs because the wind hitting them will tire out the flexors in your legs, as you will ultimately strain to keep your legs up on the pegs. Having a thick cleat on your boots would help but only marginally so.

Quality and Craftsmanship: See my review of the 2002 VTX, as the quality and craftsmanship highlighted there applies to this bike as well.

Additional notes: Judged against its most direct competitors--the Yamaha Warrior, the Suzuki M-109R, and the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000--the Honda is the most well rounded. The Yamaha is a better handler but less powerful, not as fast in the 1/4 mile, and not quite as comfortable. The Suzuki is equivalent in performance terms, but I have not ridden one, so I can't comment on the comfort. From appearances, it would seem to be the closest in most regards to the VTX except in style (it's one of the uglier designs, if you ask me). The Vulcan 2000 is faster in roll-ons because of its immense torque, but 1/4 mile still goes to the VTX. Comfort is going to be equivalent, and perhaps the only flaw on the Vulcan is its stock seat, but the stock seat on most of these bikes is the first or second item to go, along with the stock pipes.

The VTX overall is a cut-above the cruiser norm in terms of performance and reliability with decent comfort and nice aftermarket support. I highly recommend it to riders of all skill levels. It might be a bit heavy for females and small riders, and the weight may prove difficult for novice riders, but with a little practice, the weight will become a non-issue. The VTX is a well-rounded bike and represents one of Honda's finer cruiser offerings.

Background: I owned a black 1800S, which is the retro model with the spoke wheels. This was my second cruiser and my second Honda bike. I put approximately 17,000 miles on this bike.

Performance: the retro variants, the S and the R, are about 40-50 lbs heavier than the C model, the orginal VTX, so they were slightly more sluggish in the acceleration dept. They have floorboards vice the C models foot pegs, so turning was slower as well, because floorboards will drag the ground sooner than will footpegs, which allow greater lean angles. The engine is the centerpiece of this bike, producing 105 HP and, more importantly, a 120 ft-lbs of torque at 3200 RPMs. Only the Vulcan 2000 can top that as far as traditional cruisers are concerned. Fuel efficiency was decent--I averaged 35 MPG over the life of the bike, but if you rode strictly interstate, that number could go as high as 38-40 mpg.

Reliability: I did have to replace the water pump. This occurred on about 10% of bikes according to an impromptu poll at VTXOA.com. This was not something that would leave one stranded on the side of the road, as the bike has a 'weep' hole that slowly leaks coolant and gives warning of impending doom--you don't just overheat all at once. I think I actually drove several hundred miles before I actually replaced the pump, but it did cost me about 3-4 days down time for repair. Other than this, the bike was a smooth operator. They fixed this problem in the later years, so this should only be a concern if one is looking to buy the '03 or earlier model, I believe.

Comfort: This bike was comfortable to ride for 200-250 miles, but that's on par with most cruisers, and, as a whole, comfort on a cruiser is usually not great. It's more pain management than comfort when 95% of your weight is resting on your tailbone.

Quality and Craftsmanship: It may not be pretty sometimes (cables that hang free and in plain view or are latched to the frame with a sandwich tie), the 'chrome' is chintzy, and there is a distinct lack of 'bling', but, functionally-speaking, the quality is high on Honda bikes.

Overall: A well-rounded cruiser that offers up loads of torque for stoplight racing and effortless interstate cruising (get a windshield if you truly want the experience to be effortless!). The only drawbacks are the weight at slow speeds (only a nuisance if you're small and/or weak-bodied) and the lack of manueverability created by the floorboards. As no other floorboard-equipped cruiser can do much better in the handling dept., this is not really a knock against the VTX.

This motorcycle is EXACTLY what I was looking for in a "first" road bike. Chrome, big engine, low to the ground (I'm 5'9" so kinda short). Dealer was awesome. I couldn't ask for anything better. Little things are nice. Water-cooled engine. Allen head screws all over the engine. Oversized foot brake. Hard front/back fenders. Low price compared to Harley's - and better looking in my opinion. Definitely more trustworthy for maintenance issues.

I have wanted a VTX 1800 for several years now and found and won the bid on a nice bike in the region. I traveled to Colo. to pick up the bike and my intent was to ride it back home. This bike was all I had expected it to be from the seller info and photos, and more. I test drove the bike on the spot and finished the papers and paying for the bike and off I was to go for a ride. I left the town I picked the bike up in and headed from Colo. to Wy. and I was impressed with the ride, overall performance, and solid feel of the 1800. The trip to SD. from Colo. was one of the best rides I have had, the open road, a bike with awesome performance, and a good solid feel on the road. I encountered some strong winds on this trip and with most bikes this would have been a possible issue but the VTX 1800 held the road and handled like a Caddie. I am happy with almost all this bike can offer, power, ride, performance, and looks. I wanted a heavy cruiser and that is what I got plus outstanding performance. If you are looking for 50 + miles to the gallon on gas this is not the bike, I average on the HY. around 38 and in town if I could keep my hand in control of the gas around 32 miles per gal. I can live with that because this is the bike I wanted. I love the looks of this bike, the only thing I would and will down the road is the exhaust with the 1800C you have a two into one and it is big and long and I will be changing that soon. Overall I have a great bike, it has the power I want, the looks, and the Honda reliability and that makes me the happy owner. The only thing with the 1800 that takes a few days of riding it is the weight, at 700 + lbs. it is not a toy and that takes some getting used to, after my road trip of 517 miles, and a lot of around town driving I am good with the weight. When I get on my old bike at around 500 lbs you feel like you can almost toss it around a bit, but anyone getting a Honda VTX 1800 of any type you will not be dissatisfied with your purchase, so go get one and have fun.

I have had it for 4 weeks and can not find anything I do not like about it. It is an amazing machine. The power behind 1800cc will blow you away. I kill the harley's with this bike. They have their name, I have the bike. The roar within those pipes will make your blood boil.

I'm in my early 60's and find that I will need a certain amount of income when I want to slow down in the work force. So I have gotten into buying and selling motorcycles in recent years. Mainly Honda VTX's because I know more about them, what I need to buy them for in order to pick them up and still maintain a margin of profitabilty. So far so so.........but I'm learning, that the main thing.

After dropping my 79 xs1100 special in May of 1987 I quit rideing.four of my children and two of their spouses ride bikes and the desire to get back in the saddle was yery strong.
I purchased an 80 xs1100 special and rebuilt it.my son Eric wanted it,he used to ride the 79 to school as did my daughter Jennifer and son Jeffrey.my youngest son Jason got his endorsement and rebuilt another 80 xs1100 special and rebult it. we have rehabed a 79 xs 750 special one virago 750 virago and rebuilt an 83 venture for me. Jason purchased a 2008 Yamaha Raider and I took it out for a ride.I enjoyed the 1800 v twin so much I found a 2003 honda vtx 1800 in Wooster Ohio with only 2100 miles and as new as on the dealers showroom floor. The 1n fours and threes of the 80's all lived from5700 6500 rpm and cranked out 60 to 105 hp and were absolutly fun to ride. the new v twin configuration has loads of tourque and good hourse power very smooth with fuel injection,,no choke,an d a joy to ride. The ride instills confidense and the fit and feel of this Honda is outstanding. The engine loads of raw pure power, handles in a way that is responsive to every subtle input from the rider. I am back, the bikes are better, safer, with bigger frames ,better brakes. the Honda posseses the best form and fit from seat possition to the footboards from the handlelbars to clutch lever to brake lever and the foot brake to the front and rear calipers, as the 1800 twin propells this great bike on a happy reliable ride.Take to the hiways and byways,be safe,Harold.

I wanted a motorcylce, either a Honda 1300 or 1800. I wanted one that was one owner and garage kept and one that had not been down. The motorcylce is all that I hoped it would be, the only down side is I had to put a new front tire on the bike sooner than I expected. I am very happy with my purchase.
