Today, Tuesday March 6th 2007 I opened my browser to do my daily search for classic Honda's and parts. What I found was that I was not looking at ebay, at least not the ebay that I knew. In ebay's endless wisdom, the decision had been made to redisign their "Motors" site. I couldn't find what I was looking for, at least not without quite a bit more work. The new graphics and buttons were non-sensical, with pop-ups that had links for the makes, and then another for each model, but it didn't just have Honda models. It included some models from all other makes of bikes like FZR, KLX, DZ-R, GSX-R, and on and on. I chose my usual (CB) and noticed that the quauntity was significantly higher than the previous day. Parhaps that was because the CB sub-category now contained a couple of Magna's, a Shadow, some CBR's, a Nighthawk or 2, and a Valkyrie.
At first I felt a little alarmed. I was unable to find some of the bikes I had seen before. Then I attempted to take a stroll over to "Parts & Accessories" to look at the "Parts-bikes" category. The Parts-bikes category....... Where in Hell is the Parts-bikes category? It's GONE!!! There had been nearly 600 listings in that category, granted, many idiot sellers are dyslexic and think that it's called the "Bike Parts category, but it was always a great resource for complete, or nearly complete "Parts Bikes", but now it's GONE. What happens with all of those listings? What do the sellers of "Parts-bikes" think about their listings being swallowed up by other sub-categories, thus losing their target audience. I was getting angry. I thought to myself, what limp-wanged idiot designed this new layout. Searches require a completely different group of clicks and commands now. I can see that it isn't just a matter of adjusting to a new method because the method is non-sensical, time consuming, inefficient, and exclusionary.
I was waiting for this month to start my own listings. Several of my listings would have been placed in the "Parts-bike" category. Now that it's gone, I cannot do that. I will have to find another avenue to sell.
If ebay put even half of the man-hours into finding and ending the auctions posted by compromised accounts, for non-existant bikes (some of which use porn gallery pictures)that they spend on screwing up their site in a counter-productive attempt to increase sales or make the site easier, then legitimate listings would rise, sales would rise, and confidence would rise, and God knows, their stock prices would probably follow suit.
Earth to MEG!
