2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster

THE THING THAT PROMPTED ME TO PURCHASE THE SPORTSTER WAS THE PRICE.I BUY TO SELL AND GOT A REAL GOOD DEAL ON THIS ONE.HARLEY SPORTSTERS HAVE LONG HAD A REPUTATION OF RELIABILITY AND SPEED .THIS IS NO DIFFERENT.I AM VERRY PLEASED WITH THE PURCHASE.

It is a Harley with old technology so some roughness is to be expected. Likes: power, torque, sound, the Harley mystique.
Dislikes: vibration and general condition of the used bike. Parts were literally falling off due to vibration.
Great bike for stop light to stop light or short trips, but tiring on the road.

My previous experience with motorcycles has been with street bikes. I wanted a cruiser type bike but still wanted something that had a sporty feel. More importantly, I wanted a bike with that Harley rumble and feel. Practically every metric bike manufacturer produces bikes that look like a H-D but they don't sound or feel like one. It's a long story but I my search for a bike was ended when I was given a 2001 883XLH.

I did have some reservations about owning an 883 but quickly found out that it is a pure bred Harley. Granted, it's not a big V-twin Harley but a Harley nonetheless. You still get the H-D experience for a low price. You can spend as much money as you want on a metric bike but you will never get that same experience. It's not for everyone though. Some prefer metrics.

My engine has been modded so I can't give a review of a stock 883. Competition Cycles installed new cams, heads, exhaust, intake and rejetted the carb. It's strong points are: It runs strong and cruises at 75mph with little to no vibration. It's quick and handles nicely for a cruiser. It does have a bit of lope while it's at idle but runs smooth when driving. Overall, I'm very pleased with the performance. It is a great around town bike and back country cruiser.

Weakness are: It's not a bike you want to spend a lot of time on the highway but since I just ride the backroads and around town that's not much of an issue. I can and do ride a long time comfortably, just not on the highway. If I decide that I want to do some touring, I will buy a bigger bike for that purpose. My bike doesn't have a lot of vibration due to the engine work but I'm told that the stock bikes pre-2004 tend to vibrate a good bit when cruising at speeds above 65mph. It's not really a big deal to me but it gets pushed around a little in the wind. My biggest complaint is the rather small fuel capacity of the stock tank.

All in all, I think it's a great bike. Most of the people that hate on sportys don't even own a bike or if they do it's likely a metric.

Totally awesome!!! I have accessorized it up a fair amount so now i have both sport bike and a touring bike as i want/need it to be. It's a perfect combination. I would highly recommend this model for anyone or any use. I'm so glad I decided to purchase it.

My wife wanted her own bike so we went to e-bay and found her one,saved quite a bit of money by buying on here versus a dealer. So If you're looking for deal they are here, but you have to look for them!!!Rags

I have always dreamt of owning a Harley, had other bikes but not a Harley Davidson. Being a Milwaukee native it really does mean a lot.
I saw this bike on eBay and the description was very complete and the seller rating 100% so thought what the heck. This transaction was seamless the seller extremely friendly and forth coming. The communication excellent, I will miss our conversation. I would highly recommend this seller and buying a bike on eBay.
Dreams come true.

Purchased this bike for my wife. She loves it. And she leaves me in the dust in the 1/4 mile. The bike has a lot of get up and go. Ride is a lot rougher than my bagger, but a great bike for the wife that just started riding.

Great sound, good starter bike for those interested in the big bike feel, without the big bike weight. Tank is small (3.3 gal), good around town and short trips, the 2004 have a larger tank for those extended trips.
