1995 Harley-Davidson Softail: 1995 50% Harley-Davidson 20% Softail

My first mistake was buying a motorcycle without seeing it and test riding it for myself. The bike was in Ca. and I live in Fl. The bike looks good. It arrived with the brake lights not working, though. I was able to find the connections and work them away from the frame and out of the dirt and greasy oil and they work fine now (they are only connected to the rear brake pedal not the front brake lever). The bike has no horn. It was very hard to start (bad starter relay). I rode it for approx. 100 miles of back breaking, kidney pounding, teeth rattling, high vibration torture before the battery over charged and smoked and whistled like a tea kettle. The nut holding the center panel cover on the gas tank vibrated off. Causing the panel to be lifted off of the tank by the air flow and in turn forcing me to hold the panel down with one hand until I could pull over to the side of the paved highway. Luckily I found a paper clip by the road and was able to wrap it around the threaded bolt, holding down the panel(it marred the powder coating)until I could stop at a Harley dealer and purchase another nut to replace it. Luckily I saved the paper clip because about three miles down the road one of the tightening screws in the mirror above the front brake lever vibrated out and the mirror fell over between the brake lever and the grip. I was able to wrap the paper clip around the mirror armature and and part of the side of the mirror holding it upright until I could get back home. I was not informed by the seller that the stops on the front forks, which prevent the forks from turning too far and banging against the front of the gas tank, were ground off. Now there is a nickle sized dent in the front of the gas tank. The bike is in the shop having a new front tire, voltage regulator, starter relay and battery put on. $413.00. The bike has a state issued vin # and my insurance company won't insure it because of this. I can only get liability, PIP, and uninsured motorist insurance. So if the bike is wrecked or stolen, I'm out of luck. The good part is as I said earlier the bike looks good, the engine and transmission run good. The only thing Harley on it is the engine and transmission. The rest of it is after market custom. It's a softail frame but it's set up like a hardtail. It has only one shock under the frame and is really suppose to have two. I'll be selling the bike as soon as I get it in running condition.
