Buell Blast

My wife, who just turned 50 (shhh)just completed the Rider's Edge course at our local Harley dealership. They use the Blast for trainers and since she felt comfortable with it, we decided to try and find a good used one for her first motorcycle. Well, an ex-employee at the dealer just happened to have an '03 for sale. It only had 400 miles on it and had some nice accessories: a full windshield and saddlebags (Buell parts). It is orange and looked brand new. I paid her a paltry $1500.00 for it. My wife was a little reluctant to ride it on the street for the 25 miles to get it home, so I did her the favor. Here is where the big mistake comes in. I have a '97 S-3T, an '05 Harley Ultra-Classic and an '06 Triumph Scrambler. These are all really nice motorcycles. The ride on the blast got me to thinking that size, power, bling and expense are not the most important factors in deciding which bike to own. The # 1 factor should always be the FUN factor. It was so cool to get back to basics. One cylinder. One piston jumping up and down, one spark plug, one carburetor and most important: one happy-ass rider! This thing was so much fun. It corners like an ice-skater, putt-putts like an old BSA and is so light that if it should stop, you could push it home without having a coronary. I mean, it never missed a beat. Now we have put more than 2000 trouble-free miles on it. I can do most of the maintenance myself because it's so simple and parts are incredibly cheap (only 1 of everything, remember). Now I want one too and I'll never find another one this nice for so little. May have to trade my wife up to something a bit more hi-tech and keep her Blast in reserve. Of course I'll have to ride it frequently to keep the oil from going bad you know.

The bike need service from another dealer after I paid the purchasing to look it over.....So I was out the service fee twice .....Becare of the purchasing dealer.....Bike had seals leaking, throttle issues, and shifter replaced at other dealer....When I questioned these items at the purchasing dealer they said it was just the way the bike is when it is cold.....I would avoid the dealership!

I purchased this motorcycle on Jun 2009 it is a 2004 model but kept in extreme good condition only 1900 miles, owner was honest and precise on the ebay listing.

I bought this for my son to learn to ride. A perfect first bike or bike for a small woman. I have been riding for over 30 years and this is a light weight bike and easy to maneuver. I would recommend this to a person looking to learn to ride.

When I went to pickup the bike I didn't get to meet the actual seller (but the owner of the bike) so I dont know about the ebay account guy but all of this was setup before hand. He even helped me load up the bike...overall I enjoyed the transaction...

I am just learning to ride and my husband found me a little Blast. I'm only 5'2" and have really short legs, but this bike fits me perfectly. It's comfortable, easy to handle, and yet has enough power to be safe on the road.
If you are just starting out, this is the perfect bike for you. It's also inexpensive.

This is a very good starter bike. The fastest that i have gone with it is about 75mph and whent about 70 miles at that speed with no problems. The blast is very light and easy to handle. I would say that it gets about 55 miles to the gallon at 75mph and much better at slower speeds. A fue things that i dont like about it is that it could be louder, there is no tack and it shifts to esay. I bought this for the gas mileage. In town it gets close to 70 miles per gallon.

Great bike built solid strong engine and sportster harley davidson drivetrain, overall great bike. Strong responsive handling, narrow turning radius, good resale value, easy to ride easy to look at.

we bought this bike new for my wife to learn on. Excellent choice ! Light, quick handling, very responsive, and the tourque of the 500 air cooled single brought back many memories! Also stops on a dime. Only complaint is the small build of the bike for a six foot rider, BUT ours has a low profile seat. I think the higher stock seat would help this.

I don't own this but did some looking on discussion groups for this bike and found a bunch of issues - cam cover gasket 6-8k miles, head gasket 10k miles. Pretty bad for this century. Low power for 500cc (see ex500 or gs500 instead). Also quite a bit of talk about bad dealers and rip-offs by same.
