1st if you want to buy a Saab, you have to find a good honest mechanic. I live a Fairfield county CT, and I used two of the local dealers and been disappointed by both. I have owned my Saab for almost 10 years and 140,000 miles and here is what I have had repaired: front brakes twice $500 each time, rear brakes once $500, serpentine belt 3 times (about $200 each time), radio digital display once $700(and I need a new one now), ignition coil $400,struts $300, inside manual heater cable snapped $300, A/C compressor $200 (I bought a rebuilt on on ebay for $125), alternator $800, other A/C issues about $1000, probably another $2000 on tires/tune-ups. The engine is still strong and the body is in OK shape. The paint on the hood has multiple chips in it. I hope to have it another five years, but I don't think I'll buy another. I have a manual transmission and I think Saab put some 'beef' in their drive-train, but lacks a lot in the interior finish/reliability. Adjustment knobs fall off the seats, certain panels pop out etc. You get a lot for that near luxury segment though---heated seats, vents for heat and A/C to the back, reading light in the back and so forth. Interior design is good, just lacking in quality.
