I was looking for an older model Altima that has 4 cylinder, provides good gas mileage, and looks good overall both inside and out for its age. The overall condition of the vehicle is fair, unlike the description provided by the seller. I picked it up and drove it back about 600 miles, and a trip that would take about 10 hours ended up taking about 14 hours, mostly because the vehicle vibrated terribly if it exceeded 60 mph. I eventually got the tires balanced and two of them replaced because they were deformed.
The car needed many repairs that took me by surprise. I had to replace the water pump. The bumpers (front & rear) were missing some of the screws, hence they were loose. The sunroof mechanism had a part broken, so an annoying rattling sound when the car is moving. The windshield was broken, so the seller paid to have this replaced. By the way I discovered the broken windshield when I arrived to pick up the car. The sun visors (both driver's and passenger's side) had to be replaced. The radio is missing some of the buttons, so they don't operate the radio. The radio power antenna mast was broken, so I had to replace the antenna. The hood wasn't locking tightly, so I had to purchase and replace the hood lock. The headliner was falling down n the rear (again, this was not disclosed in the description). There is rust on various parts of the body, but again this wasn't disclosed, even though I specifically inquired whether there was any rust, but I was told there was none. The Service engine light came on as soon as I reached home, and I had to pay over $200.00 to get that serviced. The security system goes off whenevetr I open the door from the driver's side door, using the one key that was provided. Hence I have to unlock the car from either the passenger side door or the trunk.
The car failed my State inspection because the horn didn't work. Appparently, the horn was willfully disconnected to silence the alarm problem I mentioned above, whenever the car is unlocked from the driver's side door.
Overall, the car is in average shape and I have spent over 50% of the value to get it operational. I am clearly not looking for a new car, and I realized that there are some repairs needed to restore a used car to my standard, but I am not confused with the difference between the truth and dishonesty, so I am not a satisfied buyer with this item. I normally do a thorough review of the item prior to buying it, and I do place some trust in the description provided on the item on eBay. I have bought many cars on eBay, and my experiences vary from very bad to good. This experience is rated as fair to possibly bad (depending on whether you believe that the seller really didn't know of some of the defects, as he maintained).
Anyway, I believe this will be the last time I will purchase a car on eBay. I would rather go to a local merchant and see and touch what I am buying before I purchase it. I was always excited about using the eBay forum to find good deals, especially on vehicles, but basically, some sellers made it very hard for me to trust the integrity and honesty of the description provided on an item. Therefore, I will no longer purchase an vehicles on eBay.
