What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value Range assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT: 92 3000gt VR-4 Twin Turbo
12/29/06
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.
• Overall Satisfaction:5/55/5
This is a review over the 92' Twin Turbo 3000GT/Stealth

When I turned 16 back in 04, I was looking for a car for school. I really didn't know any names, makes, or models. One day I spotted a very nice sexy sports car and asked my friend what it was.

Enter the 3000GT, from that moment on I knew what I wanted. I bought a 93 3000gt SL but I wasn't satisfied. I totaled the SL and had to find a new car. After years of searching I finnally found a Vr4!

What I like... Obviously the Twin turbos, very fast spooling, very strong low end power. The amazing handling with the AWD. All the availabe options available for any car of that year. I soon found that my VR4 was a completely different car from the SL I had owned before.
*It didn't burn as many tires as the SL
*It was ALOT faster and pulled ALOT harder
*Handling is WAY better than the FWD model
*It comes with BIGGER BRAKES, BIGGER RIMS/TIRES, Leather, Power Seat, CD, Premium sound
*I had NO PROBLEMS with my Tranny or Transfer Case whatsoever, I found out later I had a rare 92' with the 25 spline instead of the 18 spline xfer case/output shaft
*$1000 of mods to make it a 400HP car(Intake,MBC,DP,catback)

What I disliked.
*When the turbos die, it's enough to make a grown man cry, better find $1500+ for repairs.
*Stupid stuff like active aero... It doesnt make a difference
*4 wheel steering is useless
*Mitsu doesn;t even support their flagship car!

What I Hated.
*I lost 3 tires and ended up buying a new set of KUHMOs for about 600$.
*CV Joints went out 3 months after buying(happend to my SL also)
*$500 to get a simple tune up.
*Even with a few but good after market(Thanks to 3SX, Dynamic Racing, DNP), the price for upgrades were still expensive
*Stock parts a very expensive and maintenece is VERY HIGH

My conclusion: You can't get better bang for the buck. Unless you have 25k to buy a Supra TT, the 3000GT VR-4 is the next best thing. Hell, you can buy a 1000HP Vr-4 for 17 grand! If you are looking for a 3000gt, don't settle for a base or Sl, go for the monster of the family!
Body Styling- 10/10, great, sleek, Ferrari-style exterior, JUST BEAUTIFUL
Interior- 7/10 good but not great, many of the options stop working too soon
Handling-10/10 for a nearly 2 ton whale the thing is quite nimble
Performance-10/10!!! This is WHY you buy a VR-4, 300-320HP Stock! Launches hard, believe it or not this 2 Ton monster 0-60's in about 5 seconds!
Reliablity-6/10...Well its a Mitsu, nuff' said

I bought this '95 3000GT based upon the detailed info, low mileage, high seller feedback, and low price. I was able to find a cheap shipping option, so I didn't have to fly/drive half way across country. The shipping company was great, able to get the car to me just 2 days after payment. The car however was far from perfect. I had to take the car to the local import car shop for nearly $3000 worth of repairs (almost the cost of what I bought the car for). The car had been re-painted, and wasn't the greatest paintjob. The front 2 tires were bald. The sunroof crank was broken, so the sunroof doesn't shut completely (I have to keep the car garaged when the weather is bad, at least until I get a new crank). I took these issues up w/ the seller, who wasn't very helpful, and whose only response was to stop bitching, and if I wanted to leave a negative feedback he would retaliate w/ a negative feedback to me.... So in the end the lesson I learned, is never to buy a used car w/out 1st checking it out in person.

I own a 93 3000 GT SL w 80k on engine, 128k on odometer; salvage title. One of the nicest sports cars of its time, and still an attractive vehicle bought for $4k...and can sell now with little work for 5k. Do not buy this car unless you know who u r buying from, have seen the car, and have a knowledgeable sports car mechanic check it out. Otherwise..spend 3 to 7k for a 91-95 base model w/o knowing its history..and you will pay pay pay. Read some of the other reviews to get that message. This awesome car, if properly maintained is sleek, powerful, handles incredibly, and if you want status with your kid friends..will give you that..Please avoid this vehicle if u r not sure of the mechanical soundness of the vehicle. Was the timing belt changed in a timely manner (eg 60k);Who owned it previously..? What were services provided to the car u r buying? This stufff i common sense but read a few of the above and you will see that they no less than i do about mechanics, and I'm a social worker. Tune up is $350 to $500....timing belt with water pump change 800 to 1000; mine had a leak in the sending unit on top of the gas tank...$290 to remove, braze and splice in a new sending unit...tracking down a newer used tank would have been very expensive..U get the idea. I dislike the interior headroom..im 6'2".Back seats are for kids only or very small adults. Bought it cause of the sleek aerodynamic look and the guy that sold it to me was a mechanic who had gone thru it comepletely and his only daughter was driving it. Hope this helps somebody. BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING THIS CAR!! It was my dream since they first came out in 1992 to own this awesome sports car..
I recently bought a 1997 3000GT SL. What a disaster! 3 days after I bought it, the head gasket blew. Left me on the side of the road... I gave up on that car when I found out that it needed about $2000 worth of engine work done...
I decided to buy another one I had been looking at before.... also a 1997. I drove it for a month, and the first time I tried to take it on a road trip, it started overheating and losing oil. I managed to limp it to my brothers house..he is a certified mechanic.
When he tore into the engine, he found signs that indicated that the car was sold WITH THE HEAD GASKET BLOWN ALREADY, and they had "patched it up" to sell it.
Now, Im driving a Chevy.... While Im still in love with the looks and performance of the 3000GT (especially the VR-4), I have to wonder if this head gasket issue wasn't maybe a fatal flaw with that design (at least the '97 - '99 incarnations)

I purchased the VR4 for a toy that will be driven on weekends and special trips. The car performed excellent on the 600 mile ride home with plenty of power and comfortable seats. The car has automatic (active) aero system and suspension. Both systems do not work on this car but I hope to fix them soon. That might account for the only downside is the car rides very hard, like a sports car that it is. The first week I had the car I had to drive it to work due to my sons car being repaired. There was a major ice/storm storm in St. Louis that week. The car perform above expectations in stop and go traffic, it was very "civil" and easy to drive. The four wheel drive was excellent in the snow. Overall a rocket of a car that is comfortable, handles well and has the security of all wheel drive.

for more info visit www.3si.org or just google known problems for these cars...
hope this helps you make up your mind on buying the vr-4

This is one of the nicest cars around. Far ahead of its time in almost ever aspect. The electronic controlled suspension is great depending on the kind of driving your doing. The overall look of the car draws a crowd to stops as small as the gas station. The only down side to this car is when buying it know this its not cheep to keep up with. This car requires lots of quality parts and time, if your planing on a good car that involves no money into it, this is not the car for you. The 3000GT is a true sports car, in the VR-4 form and demands even more. Parts for this car are never hard to find, sites like 3si.org is an entire group devoted to this car alone, offer a great way to get hard to find parts for less money then the dealership. However this car still demands a lot and any cutting of corners will show in the overall performance of the car, and how long it will run. Personally I have this car and would not trade it for the world despite the cost. Its bound to be a true collectors car someday, and was really a true sports car of the 90s.

1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT: A rare wonder of the import "supercars"

I bought my 94 3000GT SL on ebay a couple years ago, and I can say I'm beyond pleased! The car itself looks sharp, the curves and styling look almost futuristic. 94 was the first year introduced without pop-up headlights, and it looks fantastic. I personally use this car as my summer sportscar as its never seen snow. It sees about 8k of road a year, and has yet to let me down.

The interior is quite nice as I'm 6'3" and can fit easily into the car. The steering wheel however does sit a little low for my likings. The seats are supportive and the side bolsters hold you in place even on hard turns. The main gauges are large and easy to read, and the side gauges, while small, are easy to read as well. Don't think for a second you'll actually fit someone in the back seats, they're just there for insurance purposes.

Under the hood my SL model houses a 222hp 6g72 DOHC engine. Even though the car weighs in at 3200lbs (hence the 5-star crash test ratings) it accelerates smoothly and quickly. It slaughters most other 6cyl sportscars on the market. It has been very reliable even with 100k on the clock, and with regular maintenance it should easily hit 200k. The SL and base models only come in FWD, which is debatedly not as great as RWD, but remember these models are considered Grand Touring cars.

I'm one who likes gadgets in my cars, and the 3000GT has plenty. My SL came equiped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) which has two modes Tour and Sport. In tour mode a computer senses and reacts to how you drive, punching the gas or turning hard will stiffen the suspension for optimum results. Sport mode hardens all four shocks to glue you to the road. Automatics also have sport and tour modes for the transmission, which in tour mode it shifts early to keep revs moderately low for better gas mileage, while sport mode adjusts shift points for more aggresive driving. I had to give the performance a 4 out of 5 simply because mine's not a twin turbo VR4.

Overall, I'm in love with this car. From the looks to the power it's very good overall. However it doesn't compare to it's big brother the VR4: AWD (All wheel Drive), AWS (All Wheel Steering), Twin Turbo monster. The lower base and SL models look exactly the same as a VR4 (minus the active spoiler) but lack the pure power that makes it what it is, an import supercar. The 3000GT may not hold the acclaim of other import supercars such as the Toyota Supra, but Motor Trend didn't label it the "Ferrari Fighter" for nothing.

I like the drivers seat comfort and the looks of the car. The performance is good and with 150K miles on it, I think the reliability and quality are very good.
I don't like the placement of the side mirror adjust switch or the parking brake. It wouldn't have been difficult to do a better job on these items.

I bought this car because it simply looked awesome, there were few on the road, and the price was right, $5000 for the base model (non-turbo). I am a mechanic for my cars though and I am here to tell you that Mitsubishi designs these cars for mass production as cheaply as they can. In other words, parts are designed for ease of installation on an assembly line and not particularly designed to ever be removed or replaced again. retaining clips are fragile and too small to hold up after many years. Plastics become brittle and break when you go to repair something. The interior trim separates as glue hardens and lets go. The engines are notorious for smoking somewhere after 100,000 miles as the valve seals rubber hardens, cracks, and falls apart allowing oil to make its way down the valves and into the combustion chambers or exhaust manifolds. Changing the V6 spark plugs can run into very high dollars if you must take it to a shop as the design is such that the intake plenum completely covers the rear bank and must be removed to gain access to the spark plugs. Those not in the know take it to a shop but for an $8 plenum gasket, all you have to do is unclip the electrical connections and the throttle cable. Eight bolts later and you have access to both banks easily. Why the dealer charges almost $300 for the V6 to change spark plugs and tuneup is a mystery to me! The Infinity stereo system has it's own share of problems but to make matters worse, it is the only double din stereo system I've ever seen and finding an aftermarket replacement to fit a 4" square double din hole is next to impossible. We opted for two single din units, the stereo and an equalizer coupled with a six channel amplifier mounted to a custom box fitted behind the rear seat back. Almost no useable trunk space was lost in this modification! The headlights have been changed to something a bit more user friendly over the $600 units that were fixed in place and sealed with the factory car paint scheme seemingly permanently fixed inside the sealed unit. The Lexan clear plastic material yellows over time too and must be meticulously cared for. Yes, the car looks like a million bucks but I doubt any Mitsubishi gains any collectors value over the long haul, maybe the VR-4 but certainly not the base model!

I was fairly unaware this car even existed until I bought one on ebay but I am totally in love with it now. It's fun to drive, actually get 26mpg and I have never driven any car that got so many looks. Especially from the teenage boys of which my grandson is one. My 10 yr old grandaughter loves the way it sounds. I intend to keep this car for a long time!!
