What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

1973 Volkswagen Thing: Titles and Bills of sale

The Thing was one of VW's greater thoughts. They are unique and very fun to drive.
One thing I would like to say to all used auto buyers, even if it says CLEAR TITLE, it is a good thing to have a BILL OF SALE from the TITLED owner. In some states, such as mine, it is required.
Just a thought that might save time and money in the long run.
Get you a Thing or wait for the restored version of this one, it is going to be great!!!

Buying a VW Thing is about keeping history on the road. This little buggy is one of the most unusual vehicles ever produced, and a lot of fun to drive. Of course, there are the mechanical considerations to complicate things, but it is a 73 VW after all. The one I got was "enhanced" nicely, with some nice new seats and the replacement side curtains and top. It does not compare with any of our new "maintenance free" vehicles that are so commonplace. In fact, I've had to do some real studying already on everything from carbs to brakes. That is part of the "fun", right? All in all, the drive to work has never been better!

i was too young to drive when our thing was purchased to replace a 1971 campmobile. at 16 i got ownership as soon as i passed my license. living in pa was extremely cold in 77 & 78 with plenty of ice and snow. my thing got me to school 27 miles away every day. i used it for driving home from dover de. for 6 months and then 1-2 trips home thereafter for 3 years...i wish i still owned this particular thing as much of life occurred in and around this vehicle. it was extremely dependable and would go anywhere @ anytime.i added heatboxes to it so the rear passengers had more heat. my maintenance was minimal. i sold it for parts due to a badly rusted floorpan. ran well until i parked it and with fresh gas and a jump it started right up and purred as well as the day i parked it. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING A VW THING DO IT! YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY.....i will own another someday soon and prefer a 1973. didn't care for the louver covers that distinguish the 1974 models... orange was my favorite color and a jetfab hardtop was nice...would reccommend a roll bar as a safety measure. i currently own a 2 page advertisement from a 1972 playboy issue and a t shirt with the same ad. i also have toy cars as well. i also watch for thing flings or vw carshows just in case a thing might show up... in a word my thing experience would be FUNTASTIC!!! and i will do it again soon.

I have owned one of "these things" for about 8 years. It was a project that my daughter and I turned into a nice driver over several years. After it was finished, I ended up buying her another car. It was suprising easy to get pats for it over the internet and on e-bay. This is the most fun car I have ever owned, I don't think that I'll ever be able to part with it.
The air-cooled engine is tempramental and the ride is harsh. The spartan interior, is definitaly a no-frills. There are plastic curtins for the windows, and a separate gas heater (it's really hot). You will never stop tinkering with it if you own one, but will be the most fun you'll ever have
