What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

The Volkswagen Passat is a family car built by Volkswagen Passenger Cars through six design generations since 1973. Slotting between the Volkswagen Golf / Volkswagen Jetta, and the Volkswagen Phaeton in the current Volkswagen line-up, the Passat has been badged variously as Dasher, Santana, Quantum, Magotan, Corsar and Carat. More recently, Volkswagen has extended its range with the launch of the Passat CC, a 4-door "coupé" version of the Passat.

The nameplate Passat derives from the German word for tradewind

An all-new fifth-generation Passat, based on the Volkswagen Group B5 platform, was launched in 1996 in Europe, and 1998 in North America. It was significant in that it shared a platform with the Audi A4 (1995 onwards), using the classic longitudinally mounted engine with front-wheel drive. This design harked back to the first and second generation Passats, which were based on the Audi 80 (the A4 is the supersession of the Audi 80 line).

Styling-wise, the Passat introduced a new design language, first seen on the Concept 1 concept car, for the latest generation of Volkswagens, and this was evident with the Mk4 Golf, Bora and Polo Mk4. The curvy lines, heavily raked windscreens, and smooth underpinnings helped give the B5 Passat an very low coefficient of drag, rated at 0.27 (saloon model).

The car featured fully-independent four-link front suspension; and at the rear - either a twist-torsion semi-independent beam axle, or fully-independent suspension on the 4motion driveline. Four-wheel drive was introduced in 1997 as an option for the 1.8, 2.8 V6, 1.9 TDI and 2.5 V6 TDI engines; using a second-generation Torsen T-2 based 4WD system, which considerably minimises loss of traction. The 1.8 litre petrol engine in the Passat and Audi A4 has a lower oil capacity than transverse applications of the same engine (4.6 quarts in transverse, 4.3 quarts longitudinal), and may suffer from oil sludge problems as a result, if not changed at regular intervals with fully synthetic oils. Two transmission options were available: a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic.

Watch out for suspension issues, oil leaks, and ABS/traction control lights (ABS modules tend to go bad very frequently)

Bought this car coz reasonable pr. and seller mention no work have to be done beside some ding and dent which I really don't worry about it. I love Passat coz it has good handling on the road and looks nice. Direct word fron seller "the car drives excellent doesn't pull or vibrate.this car is ready with no work to be be done to it!" But it has ABS light on, bad battery, stereo no power, engine mount broken and due to ABS, brakes giving some problem.

I bought this car (2000 VW Passat sedan GLS) four weeks ago with 113,000 miles on it and think I could not get any batter car for the money. For this class, VW Passat is quite roomy, in front and on the back seats, including a large trunk and folding rear seats to transport even longer things, like ski. I chose this particular Passat, version with a manual transmission and 1.8l turbo (gasoline) engine because I believe it is more reliable than other versions. So far, I was right. Gears shifts smoothly and precisly while small, but still quite powerful turbo engine delivers nice boost when I need it. Around the city I get around 25 MPG and during my last longer road trip I got around 31-2 MPG. Right after I bought it, this car had a small (small according to the mechanic) leak on the cam gasket and the oxygen sensor was not working. Seller fixed it and car works great with no additional problems so far. I also had to do big maintenance service with timing belt change, which was not done by the previous owner, but this is part of owning any vehicle and it has to be done. Other than that, I cannot say anything bad about this car. For a grad student like me this car is just perfect.

2000 Volkswagen Passat: Great performance, but significant maintenance issues

• Overall Satisfaction:
Pros: I *love* driving this car. It's speedy, responsive, and I always feel in control when driving in any weather conditions.

Issues: significant maintenance issues, including Oxygen sensors that were replaced 3 times and several recalls. The faux-wood interior trim started to crack in year 3, and was a mess by year 5.
