What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

2003 Volkswagen Jetta: I Love My TDI

I bought my Jetta TDI wagon new in 2003 and am still in love. I bought it for the mileage rating and she delivers. This car gets 50 mpg. Repairs can be costly, though I haven't had to have that many even with 77,000 miles. This car uses synthetic oil, so oil changes are more expensive, but only has to be changed every 10,000 miles. This car was advertised as a sport wagon and it really hugs the road and is most fun to drive. It also had the most cargo room in its class. The rear seats are short on legroom, though, and its kind of cramped on long trips with the whole family. But its great for everyday driving. Its very well made, manufactured in Germany, unlike the other Jettas which are built in Mexico.
I've heard the engines can last up to 500,000 miles, and I intend to find out.

THIS CAR WAS DESCRIBED AS NO DISAPPOINTMENT. I AM VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED AND NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THIS EBAY PURCHASE. THIS IS THE SECOND VW TDI JETTA I BOUGHT. IT LOOKED NICE AND WAS AN 2003 WHILE THE OTHER ONE WAS A 2001. I HAD IT FOR ONLY 32 DAY BEFORE THE ENGINE DROPPED A VALVE AND DESTROYED THE WHOLE ENGINE. I SPENT $10100.00 FOR THIS CAR AND NOW I AM LOOKING TO SPEND $5500.00 FOR A USED MOTOR TO $6700.00 FOR A NEW MOTOR JUST TO GET IT BACK ON THE ROAD. IF THE TIMING BELT BREAKS IT CAN RUIN A MOTOT BUT THIS WAS NOT MY CASE. A USED MOTOR COST AROUND $3000.00 PLUS THE LABOR TO INSTALL IT. SO WHILE IT IS OUT THE TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP SHOULD BE CHANGED. DON'T FORGET ALL THE FLUIDS TOO, OIL, ANTIFREEZE. GETTING A EXTRA KEY CAN ALSO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM AND COST A MINIMUM OF $100.00 AND IF YOU WANT A REMOTE FLIP IT CAN BE CLOSER TO $300.00 DO NOT FORGET TO LOOK TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A LUG NUT ADAPTER TO TAKE OFF THE LUGS ON YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CHANGE A TIRE. COST TO GET ONE OA AROUND $17.00 PLUS TIME TO FIND IT. EBAY CAN BE A GREAT PLACE TO GET RID OF JUNK. BETTER TO BUY A LOCAL DEALER, EVEN A JUNK YARD WILL GUARENTTE A USED MOTOR FOR SIX MONTH. YOU BUY FROM A PERSON THERE IS NO GAURENTEE BUT A DEALER SHOULD DO BETTER.

Likes? The TDI with a manual transmission will return over 50 mpg under optimal conditions. Even with poor fuel in adverse conditions we never see under 43 mpg. Reliability has been excellent. (We own four TDI's at the moment.) Comfort level is good for a small vehicle. And don't worry about power. The diesel has plenty. Trim levels vary, but we don't purchase a TDI for its trim.

Dislikes? Unless you have the ability, I can assure you that any work you have done on the car will be expensive. Read the owners manual and VW invariably advises that the car be returned to the dealer for almost any service or repair required.

This being said, these cars aren't all that complicated. We do our own service. Parts are readily available on the Internet and we've found that some of the "facts" generally accepted by VW aficionados aren't always true. Get to know a bit about diesels and you can read between the lines.

Good little vehicles in our experience. I expect these four won't be our last.

2003 Volkswagen Jetta: I AM HARD TO PLEASE. American cars just won't cut it...

I drive 100+ miles a day. Other cars I have owned (Ford, Chevy, Olds...)cannot hold a candle to my VW. No comparison in power, economy, or just good looks. My Jetta averages 33mpg (1.8 Turbo, 5 speed manual)-Sometimes a little better, sometimes a little worse and the turbo makes all of the difference in the world. I took the chance and installed a trailer hitch and have had excellent results pulling a small trailer! Lots of small creature comforts, very adjustable seating for my 6' height or for my wife of less than 5'. Roomy back seat area, trunk space. NOTE: there is a strange squeeking from the front end/steering that grease would take care of, but no grease zerks! No problems to report (knock on wood). A safety recall, however, VW quickly repaired-no questions. I purchased car used and will buy another used VW. SUGGESTION-ask seller many questions & use common sense- if things don't seem to add up...they usually won't. Hope this helps...enjoy!

2003 Jetta with 26k miles. Was such a lemon that I already traded it in. In 2 weeks the radio stopped working, sunroof got stuck open, and check engine light came on. Replaced coolant sensor and light went off for about a week and then came back on? Oh and then the transmission started slamming from 2nd to 3rd gear. JUNK. Do yourself a favor and go to www.myvwlemon.com and don't ever buy a newer VW.

We bought our Jetta because of the rising fuel prices. We get 52-53 miles per gallon, it rides nice and we love it. It has been very dependable so far, it starts easy, shifts smoothly and handles great. We are even thinking of purchasing another one for our business.

I purchase this '03 Volkswagen Jetta about a month ago and was immediately pleased with the vehicle. It has a very smooth ride and accelerates easily. It looks virtually flawless and is exactly as explained. The only thing that I wasn't too pleased with was the fact that the previous owner was a smoker. I could fainly smell cigarettes and or animal in the car. It wasn't overpowering, but I have a very strong sense of smell. Other than that, it is a great car and Lone Star Cars was a great establishment to work with.

Great car. Sturdy, drives, handles well. Fantastic gas mileage, about 40 mpg. Who needs a hybrid? Why aren't there more diesel options available?

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY DAUGHTER TO REPLACE A TOYOTA CELICA THAT WAS TOTALLED IN A TERRIBLE WRECK. I FEEL MUCH BETTER ABOUT HER SAFETY WITH THIS CAR, WITH FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS. THE INTERIOR IS AWESOME, BUT BE SURE AND GO FOR THE GLX. IT IS AS NICE AS ANY CAR I HAVE OWNED, AND I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL MERCEDES. I LOVE GERMAN ENGINEERING. THE HWY MILEAGE WAS AROUND 30 MPG, THE STEREO IS AOUTSTANDING, THE LEATHER IS BEAUTIFUL, AND EVERYBODY THAT'S SEEN IT LOVES IT. NOW I NEED TO FIND ONE FORM MYSELF!
