What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

I've been seaching for this type of car for 3 years or so. Out bid or over priced I kept looking. The bid was set to my budget limit. Reserve not met, yet highest bidder. The reserve was dropped to a $1.00 bellow my bid, back in the race! I won, I was excited as a 16 year old getting their fist car! Set out to pick up my new auto and the owner was a Gentleman from the "getgo" Not a used car sales "pitchmen" The perks just kept rolling with extras for the car. All questions answered promptly. Everything was taken care of and gone over before it was signed over. This is the best Ebay transaction to date if not ever. I think the owner was trying to find the right person for the drivers seat and Vice-versa.

1979 Triumph Spitfire: A little piece of automotive history!

Having owned a 1976 Triumph Spitfire back in 1977, selling and missing it since, prompted me to purchase a 1979 Triumph Spitfire nearly 20 years later. The reason for selling the first one was the poor parts availability. With the Internet and eBay, parts are so much easier to find now than it was in 1980.

That being said, the owner of a Spitfire must have the ability to perform the necessary up-keep work or have the money to pay a competent mechanic to do the job. I love driving the Spitfire. It handles very well and was a very common vehicle at races on the west coast and at Limerock in Connecticut.

When purchasing a Spitfire, as with any vehicle, it is really important to inspect the frame for signs of rust. Many Spitfire owners have opted for frame off restorations. If you find one of these vehicles, and if it was done correctly, buy it! There are many Internet sites that support the Triumph Spitfire. The best one I have found is www.triumphspitfire.com .

The Lucas electrical system will always provide you with something to do and the driveline will always leave a drop or two or three of oil. Spitfires tend to "mark their territory"! If you are mechanically inclined, the Spitfire is a great car to play with and drive. If you have a young son or daughter who is into sportscars, a Spitfire restoration will make a great family project.

The engine (1500 cc) is a perfectly sized engine for this car. The Stromberg Carburteor is probably the weak point of the engine assembly. Many owners opt to replace the OEM Stromberg with a Weber carburetor to ensure reliability. The suspension is easy to work on and the parts are readily available. Actually, ALL of the parts for the Spitfire are able to be found from various vendors including eBay.

The car is a rudimentary vehicle and one does feel all of the flaws in the road beneath the seats. But then, that is the "aura" of the Spitfire. It is always a special day when I take her out on a nice summer day with the top down. If you want a very reliable small convertible, go for a Miata. If you want a piece of history, the Triumph Spitfire is the car for you! Please feel free to visit my Triumph Spitfire site at www.kosier.net/spitfire .
