What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

1999 Toyota Tacoma: 1999 Tacoma Extracab SR5 V-6 4WD

Background: This was my 3rd Tacoma. I owned the vehicle a little over a year and a half and put approximately 60,000 miles on it.

Performance: The 3.4L V-6 is one of Toyota's best engines. You simply can't kill it or break it, and I tried. These engines will easily go 200,000 miles with routine maintenance and well beyond in most cases. Payload was great at 1500+ lbs, and it was tow-rated for 5,000 lbs. I had a 5-speed standard transmission and fuel efficiency was below average--I averaged 17.5 MPG overall--but I drove this truck quite aggressively.

Reliability: No problems. Rock solid.

Comfort: A little noisy on the highway, but comfortable for a truck with an off-road suspension. Not a lot of room in the extended cab....good for groceries and infants but not a lot else.

Quality and Craftsmanship: Typical high-quality Toyota craftsmanship.

Overall: Probably one of the top-5 off-road vehicles from the factory. Lightweight (3425 lbs) and relatively powerful with the 3.4L V-6 (190 HP), this truck is perfect in most conditions. Throw in unbreakable engine and driveline components and great styling (IMHO), and this is a classic truck.

This truck was a one owner. Low milage for the year 65k miles I flew to California a drove it back, 5sp standard trans 2.4 ltr engine preformed excellent, 33 miles per gal (Canadian) 28 mpg US +- I traveled mostly at 70mph. My wife came with me and we went over to the west coast though lots of mountains. We then came up through oregon and Washington , BC Jasper Edmonton then to my home in Prince Albert Sk. Over 3k miles. Seats are a split bench very comfortable, I dont think you can get a split bench on Canadian models.

My truck looks great, runs great, and I've never had any problem with it. It's not bad on gas for a pickup truck, and is fantastic in snow and bad conditions. It is also great off road and that back is comfortable enough for people to sit in on shorter trips. More than a few hours is a bit cramped, but that's true for any car!

I love this truck. I needed a small truck as a second vehicle and I've always heard that Toyotas are good for well over a hundred thousand miles. That is what made my decision about which truck to buy. This truck has seventy thousand miles on it, and it runs like a brand new vehicle! It is very easy to shift and rides remarkably smoothly. I like it so much that I'm even thinking about selling my other car and just driving the truck. Great vehicle!

My husband was wanting a tacoma. The inside of truck is great and the business men were helpful and nice. The outside of truck was not in as good shape as was said. It had rust places that was not in the description or showed in a picture.
As far as the truck it is a good truck just a little bit roughter on the outside then informed about.

I really like the truck, and I use it like a truck. It drives great, gets fair gas mileage, and hauls all the tools I need for my business. There is only one problem. The frame has dramatically rusted out, in just five years. At the time of purchase, (used) the dealer inspection reported no rust on the vehicle. My shop now says it won't pass inspection next year, and were hesitant to pass it this year. Granted, the truck is eight years old at this point. However it seems absurd to build a drive train to last over 200,000 mi. and put it on a frame that rusts out before you get there.

1995 - 2004 Toyota Tacoma Highlights
Toyota's sixth-generation pickup finally got a proper name of its own--Tacoma. The all-new model has a driver-side airbag, and featured aggressive new styling, both inside and out. Propelling the new Tacoma were three engines two 4-cylinders and a V6. The new engines included a 142-horsepower dual overhead cam 2.4-liter, a 150-horsepower dual-overhead-cam 2.7-liter, and a 190-horsepower dual-overhead cam 3.4-liter V6. The Tacoma also rode on a redesigned chassis and suspension and came with rack-and-pinion steering in place of the previous recirculating ball system. Also, 4-wheel ABS was now optional on all Tacoma models. The 4WD models were visually differentiated from 2WD models by a distinct grille treatment and an elevated chassis.
Year to Year Changes
1996 Toyota Tacoma: For '96, Toyota's Tacoma pickup is provided with a new off-road package that includes a locking rear differential. The new unit is available only on regular-cab 4WD models with a manual transmission. On 2WD models it includes a rear differential locking system, 31-inch tires on alloy wheels, and a tachometer. On 4WD models, Toyota charges a little more, but adds bucket seats, a center console, and 4WDemand, the more sophisticated of Toyota's two 4-wheel-drive systems.
1997 Toyota Tacoma: For 1997, 2WD models get a new grille and flush headlights. Also, the base 2.4-liter engine gains a new ignition system and a more sophisticated sequential multipoint fuel-injection system.
1998 Toyota Tacoma: Tacoma finally gets a passenger-side airbag, and the SR5 models get a new name--Limited.
1999 Toyota Tacoma: Seatbelt pretensioners topped the short list of changes for '99.
2000 Toyota Tacoma: Intermittent windshield wipers became standard, and models with ABS now had daytime running lights. Four-wheel-drive trucks got numerically higher axle ratios for quicker takeoffs.
2001 Toyota Tacoma: New for 2001 were 4-door Double Cabs with four front-opening doors and a 60/40 folding rear bench seat. All models got a restyled front end with a raised hood and prominent grille. Also added for 2001 was a new S-Runner model--a manual-transmission V6 PreRunner Xtracab with stiffer springs, premium shock absorbers, color-keyed exterior, and special interior appointments.
2002 Toyota Tacoma: There were no significant changes for 2002.
2003 Toyota Tacoma: Antilock brakes were made standard on all models for 2003.
2004 Toyota Tacoma: The Tacoma loses its optional flare-fender StepSide cargo box in 2004.

Pros: Acceleration (V6) / Reliability
Cons: Price / Engine noise / Ride / Step-in height (4WD)

Estimated Repair Costs: A/C Compressor $1,315 Alternator $360 Automatic Transmission or Transaxle $1,457 Brakes $190 Clutch, Pressure Plate, Bearing $915 Exhaust System $242 Radiator $520 Shocks and/or Struts $210 Timing Chain or Belt $200

Powertrain Options:
Standard powerplants included 2.4-liter 2.7-liter 4-cylinders 3.4-liter V6. The smaller 4-cylinder is standard on 2WD models, while the 4WD dels offer the 2.7-liter unit. The new V6 is available for both configurations. The 2.4-liter dual-overhead-cam 4-cylinder offers 142 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 160 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. The larger 4-cylinder boosts output to 150 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 177 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Finally, the Tacoma's V6 delivers a lusty 190 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 220 pound-feet of torque at 3600 rpm.
