1996 Saturn S-Series

I like the light weight and good fuel economy of this car.it is easy to drive.
but its one down fall is the lack of electric windows and possibly a sunroof.
the main reason to buy,was the great price,reliability of the drive train and
ease of maintenance.

WELL I BOUGHT THIS CAR ORIGINALLY TO GIVE TO MY DAUGHTER, BUT MY WIFE SEEN IT AND TOOK TO IT. SO I WENT AHEAD AND DID AN INSPECTION ON THE ENGINE TO PREPARE IT FOR HER. THE VEHICLE WAS QUITE NICE COSMETICALLY, BUT THERE WERE ISSUES THAT I FELT AND WAS INFORMED OF BY THE SELLER. TO MAKE IT HOME, AND GET THE VEHICLE TO RUN OVER 50 I HAD TO CUT OFF THE AIR CONDITION THAT WAS TAKING ABOUT 20 HP ITSELF. THE CAR WAS SKIPPING BUT NEVER ACTED AS TO STALL. ON THE WAY TO THE HOUSE I STOPPED AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND PURCHASED 4 NEW PLUGS. ONCE I GOT HOME I INSTALLED THEM AND THE MAJORITY OF THE SKIPPING WENT AWAY. ONE THING I DID NOTATE NO. 3 SPARK PLUG HAD A LOT OF BURNT OIL THAT HAD BUILT OVER TIME, NOT TO MENTION FOWLED OUT.
A FEW DAYS LATER I CHANGED THE OIL AND NOTICED A LIGHT TAPPING THAT CAME AND WENT. USING A MECHANICAL STETHOSCOPE, I LEARNED IT WAS CUMMING FROM THE NO. 3 EXHAUST VALVE. SO I PULLED THE VALVE COVER TO NOTICED THAT VALVE LIFTER WAS STICKING. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE AND ALL CHATTERING CEASED.
I CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER, AND THE LIGHT SLIPPING IT HAD CLEARED. NOW MY WIFE IS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND LOVES IT.
THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS CAR IS A NO BRAINER FUEL. THE WORST IM 6'1" I BELIVE THE CAR WAS BUILT FOR NO ONE OVER 5'8". I FEEL CRAMPED. OUTSIDE OF THAT ITS PERFECT, NOW.

I bought my saturn (w/low miles) thinking that it was going to be reliable and ended up having nothing but expensive problems. About a week after i bought it, the master cylinder went out as i was driving small children in it and had to use the emergency break to stop. About 2 months after buying it, the alternator went out ( which i hear is common with these cars). I was constantly having to change the spark plugs, and finally one day, the engine died...i hadn't even fininshed making payments on it at this point...beware of these cars!

Saturns are reliable gas savers and a lot cheaper than some of the foreign models. Also like the plastic bodies because they don't dent and look great
