This is my third Boxster and I seriously looked at this Special Edition of only 1,953 units model new in 2004, but couldn't quite make the stretch to $68,000, so I settled for a new base model in 2004. The improvements in this model are like a Porsche's audiophile wish list. A 3.2 Liter 6 cylinder fuel injected Boxster engine rated at 264 HP with smooth, rapid, responsive acceleration and a beautiful exhaust note when you are revving up, a precision 6 speed manual transmission that is effortless to use, PSM (Porsche Stability Management), Brembo ABS brakes and cross drilled rotors whose stopping power is nothing short of phenomenal, quick, solid and accurate steering, Large 18" light weight Carrera wheels with gripping Michelin tires, Litronic headlights, ergonomically comfortable and secure seating with good support, hand stitched cocoa leather throughout with bun warmers, a trip computer telling you mpg, miles to empty, outside temperature, etc., a very simple to use cruise control, Bose surround sound system. After spending two days and 680 miles in this vehicle on Texas and Oklahoma Interstates and highways, I was never tired or uncomfortable. My mileage varied between 24 and 26 mpg burning Shell 93 Octane. I used the automatic convertible top several times with no problems and relished the sun and wind and the sheer fun of driving this wonderful vehicle.
