What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

Recently I purchased a 1987 Porsche 944 for my fiance. Having previously owned a Porsche 924, I was aware of what to expect (both good & bad) in owning a semi-exotic car. Considering this vehicle is 20 years old, it still has the feel of a relatively new design, and the design has aged well over the years. A large part of my happiness with this vehicle is the excellent condition it is in, due to the prior owner taking meticulous care to ensure it di not deteriorate in the way many cars are left to do. The 944 was, and is, the exotic car that can be used everyday. It is fairly fast, but still gets excellent gas mileage. It has spare seating for two extra passengers if needed.
Parts are relatively inexpensive and the vehicle is simple by 2007 standards, so many everyday repairs can be done by the average person at home. I am very pleased with this vehicle and it is easy to understand why the 944 was named to Car & Driver's 10 Best List for four years in a row. I highly recommend the Porsche 944 for those wishing to have an affordable exotic. If they keep in mind to take car of recommended repairs when then are needed, use quality parts and inspect it regularly, then this 20 year old piece of German craftsmanship will reward with years of driving enjoyment.

If you're in the market for a low priced ,sharp looking sports car, this may be the answer. This car handles like a dream and begs you to accelerate hard through the turns.
They are reasonably priced, but be aware of high maintenance costs. The big ticket item is the timing/countershaft belt replacement. Try to purchase a vehicle that has recently had this done.

This is the third 1987 Porsche I have had, I have and tow automatics and a Turbo. I love the syling of the car, the good fuel economy, and they are extremly fun to drive. If you are not a mechanic, this car is not for you as it requires constant maintenance. If you are not a wheeler dealer, you will pay a small fortune for replacement parts. These cars are a labor of love, you have to love them to have one.

Seller provided great photos and to-the-point description of vehicle condition. The transfer of ownership went forward without a hitch, and the delivered car was as good as described or better. Seller was very cooperative throughout the whole transaction. The car is in very good condition and drives like a dream! Overall I highly recommend purchasing a used car on e-bay after you have thoroughly checked out similar models of the car you are considering> You'll come to know when you have found the right car for you (and your budget).

1987 Porsche 944: Prestige, Power, Performance, Looks -- for a Pittance!

Porsche created a car, the 944 Turbo (factory designation 951), that -- two decades later -- still transcends time, style and performance. For those who can't pony up $150,000 for a 911 iteration, here's your affordable entry into Porschedom and all the mystique and tradition that this legendary marque engenders.

The 1987 Porsche 951 is a sleeper. Stock, it ran with Corvettes and other exotics costing several times more, often eating them for breakfeast and dinner. With a few, relatively cheap performance modifications (chip/ exhaust), the 951 became a monster; substantially increased power coupled with superb handling screamed "Move Over" to everyone it ran down, including 911s.

If you are careful, do your homework and have a prepurchase inspection done on the 944 Turbo you bring home, you simply cannot get more bang for the buck, ensuring years of sheer, unadulterated driving pleasure. Having owned several BMWs (3 and 6 Series), let me tell you that with Porsche there's a noticeable step up in fit, finish and quality.

After four years of driving my 951 daily, everytime I see her at a distance, I am still struck by her flowing elegant lines, which combine with a robust, aggresive wide-track stance.

This car is timeless and a classic, and, perhaps you can tell, I have come to love her soul and spirit.

Welcome to the Brotherhood.

With almost fifty weight distribution, sharp looks, and unmatched craftsmanship, the Porsche 944 has become one of my favorite cars to drive. For the 1987 model year there were two big changes for the turbo. Porsche added ABS, plus both driver and passenger air bags to the car. The non turbo makes a great every day driver car getting around twenty seven miles per gallon. The non turbo is also vary reliable if properly maintained and cared for, but do not expect this to be the fastest car in the world. A stock version will go zero to sixty in about 8.3 seconds. If you are interested in pure performance the turbo is the way to go. The turbo is more aerodynamic, has the turbo bumper to give the engine more air, bigger brakes, and many different parts that give it advanced performance. This car goes zero to sixty in about 5.9 seconds without any upgrades. I have owned both versions of the car and have loved them both, I found the none turbo to be a little more practical, and the turbo to be more fun on the streets. There are many important things to check before buying one of these cars, but what you should do first is make sure the timing belt has been serviced and that the clutch is good. It is often cheaper to pay more money for one that has been taken care of rather than trying to save money by getting a neglected one and fixing it up. A well maintained 944 should sell for about five thousand dollars with an exceptional example bringing up to eight. A well maintained turbo should bring about ten thousand dollars with exceptional examples at around fifteen. I would highly recommend buying one of these cars and joining the Porsche Club of America. For the money this is a fun and well built car that will continue to withstand the test of time.

My first experience with driving a Porsche 944 was good. I thought that buying a car of childhood dreams for under $10,000 was great. It was not just some old car. I was able to take home a Porsche. When I called my friend and told him that I brought a Porsche home he did not believe me. This is the car I learned to drive a stick on. I decided to purchase an 87 944 Turbo because it is a newer, shinier toy for me to play with. I bought the car and drove it over 1,000 miles home. The handling was excellent. The ability to get up and go is better than what I expected. One of the draw backs I noticed with both of my 944s is that the alternator belt squealed on both. I thought this would be cured with the newer model. I slowed down to park at a gas station and the belt started quelling on the 87. The 944 model also seems to develop problems with the locks. I have started out only being able to get into the drivers door on both. The passenger door can be open from the inside only. Fortunately when it comes to working on them it is not too difficult. There are also plenty of after markets things available for the car. The 944 Turbo is one of the best cars I have driven. It gives me a reason to drive to work everyday.
