I bought a pretty 2003 Nissan 350z on Ebay and here is my report.
It had 68,000 miles but was so well taken care of and it was like new. (At least that's what people though.) That is to say I think the 350z vehicles age pretty well.
Overall, the car was really great. There are some minor concerns which caused me to sell the car a year after buying it.
I only ever drove the "Track" edition with the high-performance Brembo brakes, carbon fiber drive shaft and some other things.
The main problem I had with the car was the overly tight gearbox which caused frequent shifting errors. Also, when shifting into third gear sometimes I could feel some part of the gearbox/transmission spinning against my efforts to shift which caused an occasional grinding sound. (Which can be embarrassing and could cause damage to the vehicle.)
Anyhow, with a stock 240 horsepower (or so) it screams off the line (to me anyway) and the very tight suspension is very impressive. Also, the steering wheel has a nice, heavy feel to it so it feels very stable at speeds. So much, in fact that it's a little misleading as to the actual speed of the vehicle. Sometimes, I'd look down and be surprised at the speed I was going.
Cosmetically, the car is very very hot. If you're reading this, you're obviously interested in a 350 and know how hot the body style is. I loved it but got tired of the difficult gearbox and sold it.
While the exterior of the car is very well built the inside of the car left a bit to be desired in terms of craftsmanship. Specifically, the plastic seat components, some dash parts, console between seats and other parts were ill-fitted and problematic.
The dash instrumentation is very good with lots of controls. Even the tire pressure sensor system was nice but a bit of a pill when weather temperature fluctuated as the temperature sensor triggered an alarm because the tire pressure changed.
The 350z doesn't have a clock outside the stereo so if you upgrade to a better stereo you lose the clock, which always bothered me.
So to sum all this up: nice external body shape and components, hot body style, good inside detailing but with spotty quality on the plastic parts, super fast 240hp motor that still gets just under 30 MPG and super sweet handling. (It corners like it's on rails.)
Try one. They're pretty cheap and reasonably efficient.
