What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

It is a classic muscle car of the late sixties. It has style and performance chrome and body lines that the cars of today do not have.

1967 Mercury Cougar: The car that made Mercury "The sign of the Cat"

The '67 Cougar was a great Marketing step for Mercury. At the time was marketing itself as "The Man's Car" and the Cougar was to become the symbol of the company. Everybody was putting out "Pony Cars" and Mercury wanted one of their own; What they got, was a cat. The XR-7 Model, added mid year was to become Car and Driver's Car of the Year. The car had style, grace and performance that I'm sure surprised many. The "standard" engine was a 2 barrel 289 and even this provided sprightly performance, the optional "Super Cougar" gave 4 barrel induction to the 289, but Ford/Mercury didn't stop there the GT was available with a 390cid and in '68 a 428 was available. The later 69/70 models could be purchased in "Eliminator" trim that featured the legendary Boss 302.
The 67 though is still my favorite, and I think, as is often the case, the first year is often the truest form of a design. The 68 added the newly required DOT side marker lights (which I personally always though looked out of place on the car)
I feel that the Cougar has always gotten an unfair shake from the collector market, which is all the better for me because these cars are still affordable. I like the design of the Cougar better than the Mustang and it was produced in much smaller numbers than it well known cousin. And I believe it's a little classier. Mechanically most of the Mustang parts fit and there are more and more after market companies paying attention to the Cougar now so parts aren't normally an issue.
The Cougar was campaigned as a race car by several drivers including the legendary Dan Gurney as Mercury made the Dan Gurney Special in his honor.
It is interesting to note that the market the Cougar was initially designed to go after the people who would usually buy a Jaguar, and in fact Jaguar sued Mercury over the Cougar's logo, stating it looked to much like Jaguar's.
Anyone who has an older Cougar that maintains it (these are 40+ year old cars) will have a car that will draw attention, (be prepared to be willing to tell people what it is, and you'll have to say "no, It's not a Mustang a lot)and provide lots of enjoyment.

The 1967 Mercuty Cougar is what my husband has always wanted. When it came up on E-Bay, I couldn't resist buying it for him. He flew down to California and drove it home. No problems. Ran like a dream. Best deal I ever made.

I bought this car because I have 2 parts cars already. The car itself is in fair condition, and looks nice with it's stream line look. I liked the secquenchial blinkers on the tale lights, and the hide-a-way headlights. this particular car has the center console, and floor shifter in the console, which gives more of a sports car look. It does not have A/C which will be less stress on the engine. It is an old car, and although the paint is old, it still gets attention. With proper care, the car should retain it's value, and even increase in value along with improvements, as it is an old vehicle, and purchase as is, it needs a lot of TLC.

Lesser known then the ever popular mustang, the cougar, close cousin has been stepping up in the popularity. Smooth lines and Power on demand, even the small 289 would put you back in your seat. Its stance is aggressive, and even with a mild paint job, the owner will find themselves being challenged almost daily.

The biggest part of getting a car to restore, is knowing what you can do and what you have. Shop shop shop, stop by and look, do what you have to so you know what you have. be realistic.....

What I like about it: Its black and sinister looking with a warmed over small block and 4spd transmission not to mention my first car (just like it).

Why did I decide to buy it? Its the car I dated my wife in 19yrs ago and for our 20th Anniversary I'll take her on our first date again and this time she'll get a real diamond solitare and I'll still tell her she can't drive it.

Buying any old car like that is bound to have its issues. The previous owner worked his butt off to make it nice for me and there really isn't much left to do before I go on a date with the wife. I'm glad to have bought the car and enjoy it very much.

Scotty
