I have been admiring the Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster since their dramatic change in early 2000. I never thought for a minute I would actually be driving one; these are high end cars, and come with a price tag to match ($93,000 MSRP)in 2006.
My lease was ending on a 2007 C230 Mercedes in a few months, and I wanted to use my time available to find a good replacement. I monitored auto sites from all over the internet as well as Craig's List on a daily basis. I viewed hundreds of vehicles, logging the year, mileage, and features of each car of interest, and checking the prices daily. I kept returning to Ebay because the pricing was consistently lower...much lower. Maybe it was the downturn in the economy, maybe just good luck, but when I found a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Roadster; the car of my dreams for close to $60,000 less than it listed for new, and with a full factory warranty remaining because of its existing mileage I was extremely excited.
I used AutoCheck of every car of interest leading up to this purchase. I followed Ebay's advise to get a third party inspection of the vehicle, and used the recommended DAS as my auto shipper.
Having received a clean report from AutoCheck and a clean report from the third party inspection, I was surprised to note that DAS actually provided and even more thorough inspection of the exterior, presumably to protect their own interests from false shipping claims. I chose DAS's lowest shipping rate option, but put extra money into the type of shipping by going with an enclosed shipping container. I was pretty nervous about the shipping to begin with, but I planned for extra time for the car to get here, knowing full well the competition was no where close in terms of pricing, and that it may take longer than their estimated time. It did, about six days longer. I called customer service throughout the wait, and they were very responsive, letting my know that the enclosed carrier had broken down, but parts were enroute. I arrived within an hour of the car reaching the final terminal, and they were already washing the car for me.
This car is something I look forward getting into and driving each day. Last but not least, Ebay vendor bigmacpontiac, more specifically Jeff Clauson really delivered on this deal.
What a pleasure! I know this may sound a little like an infomercial for Ebay, but it really provides consumers with opportunities to save big. I do think that nothing replaces good old fashion checking out the facts however. Buying on pure emotion and not taking the time to do your homework can be a very big mistake.
