Purchased this vehicle with 24K miles on it and 3 mths of factory warranty remaining. So far (one month later), the vehicle proves to be flawless. Upgrading from a Mustang GT softtop convertible to this hardtop convertible is, well, not even a comparison. Sometimes my wife and I have to pinch ourselves to believe we own a car that was $130K new, and we bought it for 1/3 of that price. Our plan is to buy the extended warranty for the max time allowed (84 months) through our local credit union. A requirement as far as I am concerned, as my understanding is while 'tis a beautiful machine, the Mercedes vehicles generally have "issues"...and once something breaks, it is a small fortune to repair.
On the lighter side: Smooth, flawless power. Supercharger? Had to ask a friend with a CLK55 AMG (same handbuilt engine, no supercharger) if he could confirm for me there even WAS a supercharger. Why? No whiny blender sound, no lag, no recognizable jolt I felt in other vehicles with turbos and/or superchargers. Needless to say, my friend DID verify the additional 140 HP -- via his complaint that he could own this car and never have to upgrade again (this from a guy who has been through more cars in the past 6 years than I have been in my 20 years of driving). It's true though. What more could you want? Everything from heated seats in the winter, to air conditioned seats in the rest of the year (living in Florida, this is the coolest thing EVER, literally!).
Other Positives:
1. Keyless EVERYTHING. Just keep the keys in your pocket. You never need them. Open the doors, the trunk, start the engine (push button on the transmission), even lower the top and windows from outside the car before you even start the engine! Very cool.
2. Traction control is AWESOME. Any time I floor the gas pedal, all I get is a satisfying chirp as the large tires dig in, and then I'm "off to the races." MUCH better than other traction control systems which simply cause the car to shudder as it bogs down the engine.
3. Every possible luxury: dual A/C, 1-touch windows up/down, quiet ride,
4. Really should be #1 : the hand-built engine cranking out nearly 500 horses and even more than that amount in Torque! Supposedly "bullet-proof" and likely the last thing to cause me any worries during this car's life.
5. Oh, the killer exhaust. Music to my ears.
6. Satisfies even the most vain individual. Although you will soon note, everyone is staring at your car...not at you. ;-)
The only downfalls:
1. The stereo sounds a bit flat, only providing treble and bass controls -- you would think it would include a true equalizer at this price point -- and while it comes with something like 8 or 9 speakers, there are no REAR speakers at all (the Mustang "Mach 460" system actually sounded better at low volumes. Pump up the Bose system, however, and it performs very well...even top down, you hear only the music).
2. Hate the whirring sound from the engine when turning on the car. Apparently, this is a common sound from the Mercedes lineup (per my buddy with the CLK55 AMG).
3. Nav system is okay. A little confusing, but works well for the few times I need it. Still cannot figure out how to make the female voice speak LOUDER, especially when riding topless or with the stereo blazing (or both).
For now that is IT. LOVE the car. And as long as it does not leave me stranded on the side of the road one day, I expect us to happily grow old together.
