1984 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series

This car is a good representation of how reliable a diesel can be. There are many Mercedes diesels with 500,000 miles on them and some have made it a million miles. The only other diesel in a production car that comes close to the reliability of this engine is the Cummins diesel found in Dodge trucks. My Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel has 200,000 miles on it. I have not had to do any work on it. Regular oil changes are essential especialy in a turbo model. A diesel requires less maintenance than a gas model anyway since there are no spark plugs or plug wires. If you are shopping for a used Mercedes diesel make sure you get one with a well maintained engine, the engine is the primary focus on this car because replacing this diesel engine is VERY costly. If you ever need any parts for the car even down to the smallest interior knob Mercedes still stocks these parts. Inside the Mercedes provides plenty of room for 5 people. It even has a rear air conditioner vent for the comfort of the backseat passengers. In the summer the automatic climate control is nice and in the winter the nice features of the Mercedes are much appreciated - heated seats, mirrors, and heated doorlocks. It has a very large trunk. The fuel mileage has been impressive to me - 22 city, 30 hwy. That's good for such a heavy car. If you are looking for a reliable second car, this Mercedes offers comfort and reliability and many features that you will appreciate. Even though it is a old Mercedes it still turns heads and gets respect.

It is in great shape for a 25 year old car. Bought it for my son for a college graduation gift, he wanted this specific car so he can convert the fuel to alternative fuel.

The vehicle is as described in the ad. The communications with the seller were all clear and prompt. The final sale, the pick-up of the vehicle and documents went well.

If you are buying one of these used, be sure to check the body for rust holes under the back window and the firewall around behind the battery.
These diesels are not your typical car, and need some specialized maintenance from a special mechanic familiar with these cars.

This is my second MBDT and I will never drive anything else.The quality and dependability of these cars is amazing,my other one had 299,000 miles on it and still runs strong...unfortunately the body was not as good as the motor..was not garaged all it's life like this one I was lucky enough to win.The mileage on a diesel is not the same as a regular car...141,000 is nothing on a diesel.The body and interior for a car almost 25 years old is great...this also had the original paperwork and was chassis number 327.I drive 100 miles a day to work and wanted a car that would be more comfortable in the winter (like no drafts)and I have the perfect one.I love to hear the turbo whine like it has just rolled off the line...I'm a lucky girl

Made the way cars lasted for a long time. Car is in very good condition for it's age.Needed some basic maintenece stuff

This car had some very minor issues that we were able to correct for next to nothing. Gem helped me to arrange all the finances and transportation with no fuss. Great experience and we love the car!!

I do not like this car at all. This seller totally misrepresented the car in the auction listing. There are so many things wrong with this car that it is unbelievable. The car leaks oil, the suspension was shot, the engine will not shut off, the interior is not as described, the a/c blower makes a horrendous noise, the transmission needs work, the seller refused to send me the hood pad, the speakers are shot. THE CAR WAS NOT A ONE OWNER CAR AS WAS ADVERTISED AND IT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL PAINT AS ADVERTISED. The list goes on and on. For as much as I paid for this car it should have been as pristene as was advertised. The seller was very dishonest and would not work to resolve the issues. I do not have much confidence in the Auction Insurance Comapny either. I understand that there will be issues at times when buying a car off of eBay but this is rediculous. I recently bought a car from another seller and when issues arose he worked well with me. The seller of this car is now selling again under a different user name to try to avoid his resposibilities. This car needed some major maintenance work, which I have been doing. The mileage is increasing slowly with every fix - started at 18mpg and is now at 25mpg with some more work left to do. It's not a fast-accelerating car, but once the turbine kicks in, it's moving and will hold it's own quite nicely. The mileage is excellent for a car of its weight and comfort. It's straightforward to work on. It's a solid car with no rattles or squeaks for being an '84. My appreciation for it grows every day. I had done extensive research on high reliability, good mileage, older cars and this is it!
