Was looking for a 'Vette, but with the price of gas (and afterthought insurance), got into a 99 Miata last year. Did not want to buy new just in case I did not care for a convertible over the long haul, but to date, I love it. Miata power train is simply a Ford Escort with a different drive system, but drives a whole lot different than an Escort. Great for road trips... live in Louisiana, and have been to Deal's Gap in NC and west to the Rockies. If you like driving hard in switchback curves, etc, or simply an easy drive with the top down, this car is what you need. Easy to work on, inexpensive, turns on a dime. One thing I learned was in mountains, if you can keep it on cruise on long inclines, it holds speed; otherwise, sometimes you are playing catchup with the engine. On a road course, the Miata will smoke the Corvette easily. There are many support web sites for Miatas, and those have been helpful (ie: the rear of Miata's are known to "shimmy" around 65 mph). Mileage has ranged between 25 and 37 (dependant on altitude). Bottom line, I WILL buy another one at some point.
