Overall the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rocks, it drives pretty well b/c of the longer wheelbase... Most people complain about performance with this vehicle, I found it to be adequate, it is not a sports car, but it speeds up ok in typical city traffic, for eg at traffic lights, and does well pulling into highways etc... its 0-60 is close to most other trucks and many cars you will encounter on the road. Of course if you want to take on the mustang gt or some other sports car next to you, you are going to loose. But they wont be having as much fun as you getting where you want to go, and they cant pull stuff behind them, and cant touch the Jeep's offroad capability.
The convertible soft top takes getting used to... I wish someone would invent some sort of power assist for it... it does take two people to raise / lower it, and I dont always have someone around to help with this, and so i am contemplating getting a cab cover so that i can leave the top down at work and not have to worry about rain etc.. Another option maybe the pavement ends "emergency" top that can be put on in a hurry... the company says not to use it all the time... i am keen on hearing from someone who does use it a lot to get a feel for how it holds up.. it would alos be nice if someone makes an easier on/off soft top that has rollup windows etc..
regarding ride quality, it rides surprisingly well... i switched from a 1995 gmc sonoma 4 cyl pickup to this jeep and it rides much better than my old truck and definitely accelerates better. My wife has a 2006 kia sedona... the jeep doesn't ride as nice as that vehicle.. b/c of the solid axles etc.. if you are used to riding in a truck, i think the jeep is not too far off.. the 2 dr jeep rides worse b/c of the short wheel base... riding one of this reminded me of the 2dr ford explorers...
btw, my jeep has pwr windows / locks / cruise control... many people say this makes the thing less of a jeep.. i think it makes the vehicle much easier to live w/. I have a toddler in the back seat.. she cant unlock the lock and open the door! the keyless comes in real handy and she loves riding in it with the top down, she likes to point at the sky and giggle.
hopes this helps some folks..
