I have put 200,000 miles on a 2002 Grand Cherokee 2x4 and this truck is a dream in every way but the ride, way too stiff for me. I called Monroe Tech Support and asked if they could help me fix this issue, and the guy laughed and said "they get calls from Cherokee owners all the time". He recommended the basic Monroe-Matic Plus shocks, I had them installed and WOW, now this Cherokee rides like a Cadillac, (oh sorry, I guess I should say, "a Chrysler 300")! I have no problem on the highway, I tow classic Jeeps on trailers with no problems, (total load, trailer and vehicle: 4,000-5,000lbs). Full-size tractor/trailers pass me doing 80+, and you don't even know they are there. Crosswinds, no problem. This is still a very stable and safe truck on the highway. I have had no major problems with the Cherokee, I replaced the driver window mech at about 95,000 miles, the rest of the truck is super and still runs like new. The seats are very comfortable, I replaced the factory speakers with JBLs and the radio with a Pioneer CD receiver and now have great sound inside a very quite and smooth going Jeep. The Cherokee is a great truck for serious drivers that want a safe, reliable work horse, and I get 17/20MPG average. And now you can even have a smooth ride if it suits your needs for just a few $$ extra. Happy driving.
