What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

I purchased a pre-owned 2004 Jaguar XJ8 on July 3, 2007 and it appeared just as nicely described by the Vendor. On July 5, the car was taken in to a service station for its mandatory State Vehicle Inspection. The brake pads on all four wheels were found to be worn down to the metal, and all four rotors were scored beyond repair. This is somewhat unusual for a car that has only been driven a reported 20,000 miles. All four sets of brake rotors and pads had to be replaced at a cost of $900 before the car was given a clean certificate of state inspection.

Obviously it pays to have an engineering inspection done prior to purchase whenever possible. In this case, however, reliance was placed on the Vendor's description that the vehicle had been given a 'thorough dealer inspection'. This could not have been the case, and if such claims are to be made by 'reputable' eBay vendors, then I recommend that they actually do have the vehicle taken in for a comparable State Inspection (it only costs about $20)before putting them on auction. This could be announced on the eBay descriptions, backed up the inspection report, and give prospective buyers from afar added confidence in making their bids.

2004 Jaguar XJ8: Big Cat, Little Cat, What Begins With Cat.

PROS - very low weight keeps a very nimble car, good brakes, very comfortable interior, lush quality interior, good amount of tech, great gas mileage for such a big car, good room for 5, great power, L version has tremendous amount of legroom.

CONS - depreciation is appaling, driver's position is a little snug, not a lot of bells and whistles

All in all I am thrilled with the car. It is definitely not a German Uber-car,.. and not a Japanese bore-mobile. This is a car that has character, that has style, history and class. It is a great highay cruiser and has the chassis and engine to make the back roads a lot of fun too.

All in all I could not be happier with the choice that I have made. A great highway car, lots of power, plush accomodations, enough tech to keep in touch, and great looks.

UPDATE - OK, I've now had the car for 60 days, and I have to say I continue to enjoy the car. I am also not so brash as to overlook some short-comings. In the CONS list I can now mention the relatively small interior for the size of the car. Being 6'3" and 250lbs, I know that my frame is way above the design criteria for the car, but I have noticed that the back seat behind the driver (when I am driving) is a little short on legroom. Getting in and out is relatively easy, but worth considering. I was originally looking for an XJ8L, but they did not make them in this year.

With over 2000 miles on the odo, I can say one thing for certain. This car is very well stuck together. For buying a used vehicle with 40k on it, the aluminum frame and aircraft-style construction make for one tight package. No squeaks, rattles, loose parts... nothing. That is something I was hoping for, but not expecting. Very nice.

I am also averaging 22.4 mpg with about 50/50 mixed driving. Tremendous for a full size V8 vehicle.

Overall, continue to be very happy and am glad for the purchase. I would recommend this car highly and I look forward to having it for quite some time.

As soon I drove the car for the first time, I had problems with the air ride suspension. Computer is always saying .. Fault air suspension.
Except this problem, the car is really nice, it drives perfectly. Very smooth, interior is excellent.

2004 Jaguar XJ8: Big mistake buying a car on E-Bay

Buying this 2004 Jaguar on E-Bay was one of the worst mistakes of my life. Although it was advertised as salage professionally repaired because of prior right front damage nothing could be farther from the truth. The engine described as "runs great" could not pass DEQ and when taken directly to a reputable shop it was discovered to have no oil pressure and heavy metal in the oil pan. The engine had to be replaced. The "professional" repair to the right front fender did not include replacement of the inner fender liner and it is still in the shop to try to get the suspension and electrical system to work properly. You would think that a $9000 vehicle would include a spare tire but not in this car. I have spent over $8700 to try to repair this vehicle. Selling a vehicle like this on E-Bay is a disgrace and it has pretty much ruined my opinion of what I thought was a pretty decent program. The pictures of this vehicle look pretty (and I was taken in by those as it is a beautiful looking car) but in reality it was rotten to the core. I would not recommend anyone purchase a vehicle on E-Bay.

• Overall Satisfaction:
My brother in law is a car enthusiast and strongly encourage me to check it out when I needed a vehicle.
He has owned/raced every make and model of luxury/sport car. This is his favorite.

this care drives like a cream puff.
It is surprising gas efficient because of aluminum construction.
safety features are empressive--air bags everywhere!
Nav system has minimized much on road frustration.
superior sound with Alpine speaker system.
Not too mention how sexy this car looks inside and out.

visibility is a negative--headrests in rear and limited side vision.
this particular car has headliner separating from roof and bunching at moonroof.Great warranty will replace for me.

service is white glove and just another benefit of buying a superior car.
I will never be able to downgrade after this experience.

This is a world class luxury automobile. 300+ horsepower engine with a lightweight aluminum frame gives great straight ahead performance or high speed cruising. This is NOT a sports car and should not be judged on cornering on S turns on country roads. It's excellent for what it's built for. Alpine Sound System is 1st class. It sounds like you are sitting in the concert. I'm a large person, 6'5" 240lbs and I enjoy the headroom and shoulder room. (The seat bolsters could be wider for me, but then a 100lbs person wouldn't like that). I've owned other Jags. The touch screen controls allow much more individualization then on earlier versions. The nav system is 1st better than my last one as well. I'm disappointmed that the phone is not bluetooth.
Other than that, I couldn't be happier with it.

2004 Jaguar XJ8: Happy Jaguar owner

Always had a desire to own a Jaguar, but never thought it could be possible. I was amazed to find low prices throughout Ebay first, and then scared to bid for such an expensive item a long distance away.
I carefully shopped around for months, learned the ins & outs of such a purchase, and then made a bid on this car. Salesman Clive at Rendel Motorcars made the transaction very easy. The car is great!

I really enjoy the ride of the vehicle and the simplicity of the options. The interior is beautiful and very comfortable. I also think the car handles great. It has plenty of power and the body changes make the car look like a true luxury vehicle. The reputation of Jaguars in years past make this a very affordable car. You really can own a 60,000.00 car for only 22,000.00.

2004 Jaguar XJ8: Great used car investment

I had always admired Jaguars but I was worried about reliability and cost of repairs. A few months ago I purchased a 2004 XJ8 with 31,500 miles. I was able to buy the car for $20,500 which is a steal given the age and mileage of the car. The 2004 model was completely redone with an aluminum frame.

I could not be happier with this car. It has all the options you could ever want and the interior is very comfortable. The engine and power are excellent with great power. The braking system is a bit sensitive but fine once you get used to it.

I highly recommend the 2004 XJ8 as an excellent used car investment.
