What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

The Jaguar X-TYPE is an entry-level luxury car / compact executive car produced by the Ford owned British luxury marque Jaguar Cars since 2001. It is built on a modified version of the Ford CD132 platform, a British version of the Ford CDW27 platform, which is the base for the Ford Mondeo, and remains in production at Jaguar's Halewood facility in England.

2004 Jaguar X-TYPE estateThe X-TYPE is the smallest of the current Jaguar saloon (sedan) cars, and was designed to build on the success of the S-Type, although it takes many styling cues from the XJ series. Jaguar states that 10% of the parts are made by Jaguar, 20% are made by Ford, while the rest are made by subcontractors.

Market and sales
The X-TYPE was designed as a direct competitor to the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the similar styled Rover 75. Sales have been poor (more noticeably in foreign markets than in the UK), however, blamed on its resemblance to the larger XJ which was traditionally bought by older customers, not the younger ones that Jaguar craved. Initially projected to surpass 100,000 annual sales, the X-TYPE peaked at 50,000 in 2003.

Sales in the United States, its primary market, dropped from 21,542 in 2004 to 10,941 in 2005. BMW sold 106,950 3 Series cars in the U.S. in 2005, while Mercedes-Benz sold 60,658 C-Class cars and Audi sold 48,922 A4 and S4 models. Only the Lexus IS posted similarly disappointing sales. Despite these poor numbers, the X-TYPE is Jaguar's best-selling model, accounting for 36% of overall sales.

Powertrain
The X-TYPE is equipped in the US and Europe with either a 192 hp (143 kW) 2.5 L or a 227 hp (169 kW) 3.0 L Jaguar AJ-V6 engine and all wheel drive, and the X-TYPE is also available with a 2.0 L in front wheel drive format. In Europe, the X-TYPE is also available with petrol or diesel engine. A 2.2 L diesel engine was introduced in mid-2005.

It has good handling — the four-wheel drive system which is tuned to send 60% of engine power to the rear wheels and 40% to the front for a sportier feel.

Body styles
The initial version of the X-TYPE was a saloon. In early 2004, this was joined by an estate version, making it the second ever Jaguar estate car, in addition to the first to use a diesel engine. The estate version was launched to mixed reception. In the United States, the estate is officially known as the "Sportwagon".

I have owned the vehicle for about a month, overall I'm very satisfied with the car. I traded in an LS1 camaro, I'm an LSX enthusiast but after driving this car I think I'm done with using a sports car as a daily driver. I do have some complaints mainly stemming from the craftsmanship of the interior, particularly the choice of materials used and the build quality from inside the car. I read some reviews prior to buying and they pointed out that the ride quality was superior relative to its direct luxury competitors and they seemed to share complaints about the interior. The console was squeaky enough to inspire me to disassemble it and run a bead of silicon around the contact parts; it seemed to have fixed the issue. The car is decently peppy, although it's considerably slower than my former ride, it drinks more gas. It came with amenities that were foreign to me, telescopic steering, heated seats, AWD, automatic dimming mirror, auto sensing wipers, and sound deadening materials. The sound system is disappointing, even after upgrading to a set of polk speakers it's still lacking; the internal amp is just simply underpowered. Upon removing the door panels for the speaker upgrade, I observed a healthy amount of sound deadening material which contribute to a quite, genteel ride quality.

Equipped with a 3.0 V6 pumping out around 227hp coupled with AWD and a fully independent suspension makes for pretty exhilarating drive around town. The suspension handles decent enough, suffering slightly from exaggerated body roll on hard turns but it experiences negligible nose dive on moderate braking. Doors and trunk close with marginal effort. Overall it's a nicely engineered product in a mechanical sense but the interior wasn't given the same attention, in fact I would be hard pressed to think they came from the same manufacturer much less the same product.

My wife purchased her X-Type new in 04. 2.5 liter 5 speed. It currently has just over 50,000 miles and has been almost trouble free.A new wiper motor and a newer style drive shaft were the only repairs. There was a clunk in the driveline just after purchase and the dealer replaced the driveshaft with a newer style. That got rid of the problem.
The seats are a little hard and I would prefer more padding for long trips.
The car is peppy, but no speed demon.30 miles per gallon on the highway makes up for that.
The little Jag is still tight and quiet as the day it was bought.

Bought this car used with 25 k miles at less than half of it original window sticker. Worst thing I can say is that it depreciates fast....but good for me. She loves it after moving out of the minivan / SUV mom vehicle she always has had to drive. It gets about 20 MPG in town and shocked us when we took our first trip and got between 27 & 28.2 on a 600 mile trip cruising in the 75+ range.
It is comfortable but not as quiet as my Lexus LS...but than what is ? The AWD system is great in the midwest..snow is no challenge.
As a nurse driving to the hospital in all weather she feels very confident. We replaced the mediocre conti tires with Michelins and the ride is very smooth and handling superb. I am looking for another one for my daughter. Maintenance after 20K miles had been a battery replacement and tires which were optional. Bargain vehicle...frankly I am glad most people overlook this car....because you can steal them on the used market. As long as you hold on to a car and drive it it is great..if you trade often then get ready to bend over.

The car was exactly like advertised, perfect in every respect. We dealt with Mr. Mohsen who answered all our questions quickly and honestly. He worked very diligently to make sure the transaction was more than satisfactory to us. He is the type of person everyone should have the pleasure of dealing with. A very good man.

The Jaguar X-Type is a vastly underappreciated vehicle due to some negative reviews in the press, although many of the reviews were good and they are right on the money! As a result, the X-Type can be purchased as a used car for relatively little money due to extreme depreciation. Although the X-Type's styling is retro, it is still one of the best looking sedans on the road -- far more interesting that the zillions of BMW 3 series and Toyota Camrys that other people drive. The X-Type's ride is outstanding just like all Jaguars. The cornering and handling are also very good, although the car is not intended as a hard core sports sedan. I have driven the X-Type through a New England style snowstorm and the all wheel drive did not let me down. The 2.5 liter engine and manual transmission provide acceptable acceleration and power. Much to my surprise, the gas mileage has been outstanding, which is an acceptable tradeoff for the engine's lack of low end grunt. The overall fit and finish in the car is very good, although I have had a couple of minor problems (non engine related), which were handled under the original factory warranty. So far, at least, this Jag seems to be a reliable car (I did purchase an extended warranty from Jaguar just in case)! On the whole, I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this car.
