This is my first minivan. End of an era of "cool cars" for me, or is it?
Needing plenty of hauling capacity (newborn twin girls) and wanting the most new van I could get, I started my research with two top selling minivans in mind: Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.
After test driving both, and checking out web sites/forums for research and opinions there was a clear winner: The Odyssey with Touring trim -- and navigation and DVD.
Sure, it cost way more than all others, but it was more responsive to drive. It also offered other features not on the Toyota such as run-flat tires ("who wants to change tires in the rain? Not me. Sold."), cylinder deactivation (more MPG), roll down windows with shades built-in the door. It was a done deal.
Now that we've had it for just over 2 years, the navigation really pays off (no need to print out Google Maps, and you can even look up destinations on the way like restaurants or hotels), the DVD player is the "backseat parent", and the seating flexibility has been very handy. Plus, no mechanical issues.
Now, if I could only find some chrome spinners for the run-flats...

We really love our Odyssey! It is totally Family Friendly! The 2005 model is the new body style & is totally loaded! With it being a few years old & having 100,000+ miles - - It fit our budget!! What is wild is 100,000+ miles is just getting broke in for a Honda!! It looks brand New! It sounds crazy to call a mini van - - Cool, but it is!! It has it all! You have a luxury car & sport car feel! When you are in it, you would never think it was a mini van!! We purchased because we had bought an older model that had over 170,000 miles & it never gave us a problem in the year that we owned it - - wife wanted the newer body style & more buttons on it!! I do agree with her - - the upgrade is nice & worth the money!!!

Bought a 2005 Odyssey with 102K miles on the clock. Changed the timing belt and water pump as it needed to be done at 105K miles or 84months according to Honda.
The AC Condenser was punctured by a stone - an unfortunate expense.
Some tips:
1) If you have a 2005 - 2008 Honda Odyssey get yourself some gutter guard and cover up the lower front grill, it will save you a ton of money.
2) If you have an MP3 player (e.g. music playing phone, iPod) you can hook an RCA cable to the third row seat's auxiliary point and listen to your music through the car's stereo system. It might be the neatest solution but saves you money in having to fit an aftermarket solution.
3) Make sure the rear sliding door hinges are greased - they tend to be neglected - especially on cars from the colder states.
Great car (whether you have a family or not).

I like everything except the after market wheels which were supposed to have TPMS (tire pressure management system) sensors installed in them. I had to pay $1750 for new Honda wheels with new tires and sensors.

after a 5000 mile coast to coast trip in perfect to nasty thunderstorm weather(no snow on this trip!) this vehicle was great. about 25 mpg, comfortable and handles very well. we(just the 2 of us) thought many times there was an issue with steering drifting to one side or the other but after careful checking it seems this front wheel drive is more sensitive to the crown in the road. design wise we felt the lighting was lacking. Reading by the passenger requires too much light for the driver to be safe so we had to pull over or use a flashlight. Two more things: the steering wheel does not have the telescoping feature on this year model. power plugins(cigarette lighter type) are not 'hot' until the key is on. bad for charging things like phones! we didnt use the rear radio remote controls nor the dvd player...maybe next trip. ours has about 55,000 miles on it now. hope you enjoy yours as we are with ours.

There was a big scratch, on the drivers fender & side mirror, that wasn't disclosed. It had touch up paint on it, but it still didn't hide it. The inside was very dirty. The Third row seat was torn lose/needing restitched at the base..
This vehicle was stated as being in EXCELLENT condition....however, it was not....
As far as the performance, it is great, so far...

I've owned foreign made cars for a long time and after looking at the domestic brands decided once again to go foreign. Ford Windstar, Dodge Caravan, and Chevy Uplander just felt plastic and tinny...like they would fall apart next week. I bought this van because it was a good price for a Honda. They are the most expensive, but I think they're worth it. The Toyota wasn't as roomy but we did like that it didn't feel like a van, and the Mazda felt as small as our highlander. I have no complaints...average about 23 mpg. I have the EX model that uses REGULAR tires which is a must unless you have wads of cash to throw away. The one thing a don't like is the clearance...it rides really low and sometimes my shins get hit by the driver and passenger doors.
