2004 Honda Civic: HYBRID- a weapon we can use to fight the Oil&Gas Barons

With gas prices choking the American dream to death, it was time to wrestle my 100 mile round-trip work commute to the ground once and for all. After much research I settled on the Civic Hybrid, based on it's superior ride and good mileage ratings. I had test drove a Toyota Prius, and while the ride was OK, I found the road noise less than bearable and the general design and workmanship in the interior lacking. I have owned many a Toyota (Corolla, Previa, (2)4Runners, Tacoma) and Honda (Civic, Odyssey, CR-V), and general prefer Toyotas.
I bought a 2004 Civic Hybrid sedan on eBay. Arizona car with 58,000 miles. I drove it back to NY (2,430 miles) in 48 hours. The car was great in every way:
Mileage: Overall, I got 42.7 MPG, and that was averaging 75+ MPH with A/C blasting. The last 480 mile leg, from outside Columbus OH to my home saw 50.7 MPG, which included a 30 minute interstate crawl at 5 MPH due to an accident. Drove it to work today (46 miles) with fresh fill-up and got 52.4 MPG. Nice!
Comfort: It is a small car but even with this marathon trip with hardly any stops I was comfortable. I am 5'9". Hard to sleep in the back :) A/C works well, all the controls are within easy reach and intuitive.
Handling: Like all Civics, it handles like a dream. Very nimble with adequate dampening, even with the relatively sporty (stiff) suspension.
Performance: Not a drag racer but more than adequate off the line. Cruises effortlessly.
Style: The 2nd generation (2006 on) looks cooler inside and out, but this generation (2003-2005) is OK. Other than the HYBRID badges you would think it was a regular civic. Mine is white with nice tinted windows to combat the AZ sun; looks sharp. Interior is black and tan, so looks great with the white and black exterior. Antenna mounted on front center roof would have been better in the back like the 2nd gens.
Room: Me and the 5'9"" wife and two kids (12 and 10) fit easily. Truck space is not bad at all. We all agreed this will be out vacation car (instead of the 2003 4Runner) since it is roomy enough and comfortable enough for our long ( 300-700 mile)drives.
Price: I paid $13,650. The AZ car looked brand new underneath, exterior, and engine. The interior had a few scuffs, but mostly pristine. I calculate that after I put 100,000 of my own miles on it (4-5 years) I can sell it for at least $4000, and thus it will have paid for itself assuming gas averages $4/gallon!
Remember, I have only owned this for a few days. Previous owner loved it. We'll see!
