1999 Ford Explorer

ilike the fact of the 4x4 for winters in north dakota. i wanted 1 vehicle instead of having 2 vehicles to insure maintenance costs etc.. it is a letdown
in comfort from being used to a lincoln, but i knew that. i had a all wheel drive van that was great in winter, but to many miles made me want my ex. this
vehicle may have had a or some kind of security installed like electric locks etc. will have it checked out in summer.. the engine is the smallest for explorer vehicles but has plenty of power, the only thing wrong is very disapointed in gas mileage. seller told pretty much what was wrong with it when i bid on it, i don't think if there is a remote for it he didn't know about it!!
i picked it up at his place & drove it home 1,000 miles run just fine, cruise etc. works great, the only thing wrong is you start it in cold it does shut off
in 15 minutes, sometimes like it has a remote start on it will have to check this out? the engine light stays on all the time, but some vehicles run fine
with check engine light on, i know of 1 that went over 100,000 with it on..
but i guess it's like everything else you take a chance on it when you buy it even if it is brand new it can be a lemon not only in vehicles, in everything you buy. so far everything works just fine i am satified with vehicle..
have not had my ex. really long enough to have everything looked at to see what
is what the only thing iput in it so far is an air filter which was very dirty
nasty would be a better word.. so as far as what do i think of my ex i have enjoyed using it.

LIKE THE VEHICLE OVERALL.
LOVE THE MILEAGE.
HAD A FEW MINOR PROBLEMS NOT IN LISTING BUT OVERALL A GREAT BUY.
WOULD DEFINETLY BUY FROM THIS SELLER AGAIN.
HAVE ADDED TO FAVORITE SELLERS LIST.

Great truck if you do not care about gas mileage. Car like ride, great space for hauling your items in large cargo area. 4wheel drive can go in snow or ice. Seats comfortable we use it to haul daughter's softball equipment, she is a catcher so she has a lot. gas 14 mpg maybe 17 hwy. Engine not the most powerful but it gets you where you are going. The choice in the used SUV market because of the long reliable history.

They sell vheicles that were taken away usually from unlicenced drivers. That's way, they don't know much about the vheicles. They don't give u the tittle but they'll give you the paper work needed by the DMV. The pricethey write down on the paper work is less that the price you actually pay.

the good:its real nice the interior its well taken care of,the engine maintenance it's good too.
the bad:one of the subs had the coils burnt so it didn't work at all,paint is fading,speedometer it's off by a lot you can't naver tell how fast you're going,actuators quit working as soon as i brought it home,only 60% of the alarm/remote starter was installed.tried to contact seller after for questions 'bout all the stuff that i found wrong before leaving feedback but wont answer my emails or return my phone calls.

Ford Explorer is a nice run around SUV.Handling is tight,insturments within reach,room inside for adults and children,good size cargo area.Dislikes would have to be road noise and smoothness of ride,a common problem with any of the bigger Fords.Plastic pieces;cupholders,latches,etc.;tend to be easily broken ( again I've had this with other Ford models).Motors in the other Fords I've had handle a lot of work without a problem.

This vehicle came to me as a surprise. I suspected it was in some great way, flawed. The seller also had the vehicle inspected and all the paperwork for DMV was filled out and ready to submit which only took me minutes at the DMV. I really like the vehicle and don't know why I was so adamantly against SUVs. If you can buy one for a bargain price like I did, it costs much less to drive than a new or more expensive economy car due to monthly payments and especially when you take into consideration, DEPRECIATION......Sure it only gets 15 mpg but there are no other costs. The best thing is that it has a lot of luxury for a 4 wheel drive vehicle and it can really pull a load is snow as I had to on two occasions already when i had to pull stuck cars out and also towed my Porsche on a trailor to the painter this winter. I am totaly pleased with my purchase.

I purchased this truck with 16,000 miles and have driven it to 150,000 miles with only minimal repairs (brakes, tires, ball joints, etc). It has never let me down. The ride is firm and can be a bit harsh on very bumpy city roads, but other than that the ride is great. The 5.0 liter V8 is smooth and powerful. Gas milage is what you would expect for a vehicle of this type (19 highway and 14 around town +-), but if you are concerned about gas milage you would not be interested in this kind of vehcile. I am looking on ebay for another 1999-2001 with low miles to replace this one.

Purchased for my soon to be 16 yr old son. 78K miles. Looks great - dark red with tan leather interior (XLT trim). Power everything, including power sunroof and dual power seats. Everything works as it should. 4.0L gets about 16/20 mpg.

Only issues have been the intake manifold gasket (check engine light came on) and a little pricey gasket replacements on the front transfer case and rear differential...check for leaks!

Super comfortable (leather is a must!) and rides smooth (it is a truck, however!) High safety rating and plenty of rear cargo area for my (2) boys football and lacrosse equipment.

My first Ford and I am planning on getting a 2003-04 model for myself
