2005 Ford Excursion: 2005 Ford Excursion

01/01/10
• Overall Satisfaction:
Don't know why this vehicle was discontinued. I would continue to by this car until I can't drive anymore. I got it for 18k because the dealership couldn't move it, 35k miles mint condition turbo diesel. Have put on 5k miles in 2 months and love it - diesel could be cheaper. Very comfortable, great visibility and overall very safe. Mileage can be better and diesel requires some extra care like plugging in at night when it's cold and $200 oil changes (15q) but like I said I would buy many more. Hate Ford love the Excursion and we are 3 people in total and have all the space and comfort in the world, as well as room to pick up my 7 siblings when they fly in for a weekend rain, snow, or shine.

2005 Ford Excursion: Best in Class

05/22/07
• Overall Satisfaction:
This vehicle is the best for trips. If you like to travel I highly recommend the Excursion. Lots of interior room, comfortable ride, and the diesels get reasonable fuel milage. Not to mention they look real good.

2005 Ford Excursion: Miles & miles, smiles & smiles.

The 2005 Ford Excursion 4x4 Diesel was the last of the Excursions to be manufactured. I have a 2004 with rather high mileage so I was looking to purchase a 2005 with as low a mileage as possible within my price range. These vehicles are great for towing a travel trailer or carrying up to 7 passengers. The diesel engine has all the power needed to pull long grades without losing speed plus the tow haul feature which helps control speeds on steep downhill grades. I keep meticulous track of fuel consumption and find the mileage averages 17 mpg. on the highway carrying from 1 to 7 passengers + luggage. When towing my 29' Airstream travel trailer or pulling a 16' flatbed car hauler trailer carrying a vehicle, the Excursion averages 13 to 14 mpg. Before I purchased the Diesel Excursions I drove a '99 GMG 4x4 Suburban 3/4 ton with a 454 gasoline engine. When carrying only passengers it averages 14 mpg. Loaded & towing either of the trailers it averages about 7 mpg. The engine also had to work harder on the grades. The Excursion pulling the same load averages 14 mpg. and pulls almost effortlessly. The Excursions have held their value a lot better when comparing them to similar vehicles of the same vintage and milege.

2005 Ford Excursion: BEST SUV EVER

This has been the best Suv I have owned. It might not have the trim of my range rover but it starts every time and has not cost me a penny apart from oil changes and tires (unlike the Rover). It tows like there is nothing on the hitch and it's not as bad as you think on gas cause I get about 14-15 on average. I am not a lead foot, so that helps. I can fit so much stuff in this truck it's unbelievable, like 60 bags of mulch and still have my kids in the back seat. Overall great truck. 2005 excursion Eddie Bauer 5.4 Liter.

LOVE this truck!!!! We have a 2002 also! Ford made a mistake when they discontinued this model. We are a family of 7, very active with horses. This diesel can pull! The room it gives & the reliability makes it well worth every penny!

The SUV is what we expected. This particular one was disappointing because it is not in the condition described by the seller; bad ball joints, body panel repair/replacement due to accidents.

I love this truck! You can't buy a more capable SUV, period! V-10 power with the fuel efficiency of a diesel. I bought this truck to haul my boat and family of six. It is very roomy and comfortable. I chose the 4 X 4 model and it's a gorgeous blue and grey with grey leather interior. Very happy about the fuel economy, 15.7 on the highway. You'll hear people bitching about fuel economy but you buy this vehicle for it's capabilities, if you want fuel economy buy a prius.

2005 Ford Excursion: Excursion from he'll...

I purchased a Excursion from a body shop. It was advertised on bay as everything works with one exception the reverse sensors. Upon getting it to Indianapolis I found that the engine controller did not work. The air bag passenger side was missing and the drivers bag was incorrect for the vehicle. The light on the dash that would indicate the airbags were not workin was removed perhaps to cover up the bags were missing and not correct for the vehicle. The wire harness was missing for some of the rear of the vehicle. The rear brakes were warped. The ad was written by a gentleman who had not seen the vehicle. The seller offered to do nothing. The vehicle might have been great but you can see the problem. I have over four thousand in repairs and still going up.

2005 Ford Excursion: Love my Truck

12/03/09
• Overall Satisfaction:
Bought my 2005 Excursion EB Diesel at auction with 2000 miles on it. Now, 70K miles later, it gets better all the time. Room for whatever you want to haul and mileage that no one believes until they read the on board computer readout. New, it averaged 18 around town and 20 on the road. As the 6.0 begins to loosen up we are up to 19.5 in the hills of Alabama and 22 on the highway at 70MPH. For 8,000 LBs of metal, it handles a lot smaller and with the back-up sensors parking lots are not a problem. It will tow like no vehicle I have ever owned and has been 100% dependable. The only issue it ever had was gummed up EGR valves from poor quality diesel which was repaired as warranty. Glad I bought it before Ford screwed up and quit making them...
