1998 Ford Escort

car was very nice my wife loves it. i would gladly do business with garnet ford again. the only thing i found was one bad shock but it should be time for new ones anyway. very easy little fix.

there were more things wrong with the car than the seller had listed, seller told me of other things when i picked up the car. the next day i noticed even more problems with the vehicle, i needed the wheels or i would have looked into taking it back. i do my own mechanical work so i can deal with it....

I bought this 98 Ford escort because i needed a car that got good gas mileage, and this one gets 30mpg. It's a great car for running errands and carrying three kids where they need to be. The only thing we had to replace was the fuel pump.

Great little car for driving down the highway or around town. Can't beat the gas mileage and the long lasting drive train.

This Escort was described by seller as having "good brakes , auto transmission , engine , suspension good tires interior is good body is good roof rack

Actual car: 2 tires would have to be replaced. Holes were cut where rear speakers should have been. The radio and CD Player did not work. On the first drive the motor quit working. All the cylinders showed 0 compression with the exception of the good one which had only 30. The seller refused to speak to me after putting me off for a week. He hung up on me twice. That was his way of saying I'm not going to give u any money back.

I love my littlr escort because it is ... well just a great car!!! see above reviews because i feel the same way about mine(except the busted tie rod, that never happened to me) Just an alternator!

That was so easy! I love my little car and it was well worth the drive to Dallas to pick it up.I rented a car for less than a hundred dollars and drove down. I was shocked that I was the 11th and last bidder on it. The transaction was smooth and I'm definitely hooked on eBay now. I had no idea that I could wreck one day and be in another car of equal dependability in 3 days. I am very happy with my little Escort! It has 2 dents that I don't even notice, drives nicely, we had a little ice last week and it did great. Maybe this was just luck, but I am happy that there is a way around unfortunate situations such as my accident. I could not have afforded a new car at this time. I keep my cars for years and had 289,000 on the one I wrecked.

I am assuming this category includes any model of escort from hatchback to wagon. I've owned this 1998 wagon for 3 years and still runs excellent.
The only problem was after the 1st year, some part in the transmission lever needed to be oiled for it was hard to get it into drive. This is an automatic by the way, and I believe this problem was due to the previous owner who mentioned having the car sitting for three months.
Other than that, routine maintenance is all it needs. Mileage is now at 130,000 from 72,000. Engine is perfect not consuming any oil (haven't had to fill it at all, but only when changing the oil), and after nearly 60,000 miles, surprised that transmission fluid is still clear.
I'm a TLC guy on acceleration and daily driving, so can achieve up to 40 + mpg except in winter where I can get a reasonable 35 mpg. I can comfortably fit into the seat with plenty of leg room being 6' 2". Hope to have this car for years to come.

I decided to bid & buy it because the pictures looked pretty good and there were several screens of things that they claimed had been checked, one would assume by competent and certified mechanics.

I disliked the fact that the seller had falsely advertised that the steering mechanism had been checked and found to be serviceable. This was *NOT* in fact the case at all with the steering, and while driving home, the left tie rod end separated from the control arm while driving at freeway speed over a bridge expansion joint on I-80. This was due to poor maintenance, there was no grease in the zerk fitting and nothing but rust where the bushing and joint was located. I feel very lucky to be able to be here and talk about it. That is the kind of part failure that kills people, both in the vehicle and in other cars, AND... it is something any mechanic would have found by doing a quick wiggle test on the tire & wheel or on the tie rod itself. Fortunately, there was no accident, only the inconvenience of getting the vehicle repaired and back on the road.

Other than that, it has been a very good car. Overall, I am quite happy with the vehicle. The engine runs well and it don't burn oil.
