With all the negative press about Chrysler cutting back production of several vehicles, including at least the PT Cruiser Convertible and GT model, I went window shopping on ebay.
I had only purchased one item ever over $1,200 on ebay (an aftermarket car body part). I had always admired the PT Convertible from a distance. But, when I started shopping around I spotted a very low mileage 2006 GT Convertible in California. (Just what Chrysler said they would not be making any more of) And, in addition, this Black PT convertible had a rare tan top, and tan leather interior. (I hate the plain gray interiors - so I was very suprised to find tan accents in a Black car. By low mileage; it had only 8,800 miles on it.
So, I began to "watch", "bid", and eventually went for the "buy it now" price, once I did some more research and comparison shopping. After closing the deal, I soon flew to California with a cashier's check to put my eyeballs on the vehicle. Wow! A beautiful auto; smells like new still. I drove it back to Oklahoma that day! I already have a fully customized 2006 PT Cruiser that has been a mega winner at shows this past year! But, I will be selling "soonercruiser" to make way for my new Black Convertible in my life!
After driving my standard shift, non-turbo for a year - this HO turbo with auto stick drives and runs like a dream! I recommend a turbo PT for anyone who really wants the PT to respond when you hit the gas! I find that the PT Cruiser seats, especially these leather ones are very comfortable on long trips - much better than my previous Dodge minivan. Even for the great price ($17,500) this is not a BMW. So, what I have seen of the craftmanship is very good for the price. Historically, PT Cruisers are in the top 5 compact cars for reliability.
This is my first convertible. So, the only downsides I see are: 1) a "little" more road noise; like when noisy trucks are along side you. And 2) less stiffness of the vehicle frame - When your butt and hands feel a road bump, you see the movement in the upper body & windshield a fraction of a second later. I am assuming that a strut bar and stabilizer bars will help this. I am a very happy e-bay Motrors customer!
