What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser: PT Cruiser First Year of Production

• Overall Satisfaction:
When it comes to autos, I'm the kind of buyer that has to have something a little unusual. I purchased the 2001 PT Cruiser shortly after its introduction. It is not a car for everyone, but it works out nicely if you need a 5 passenger auto that can be converted to haul some rather bulky items. I use it just about every day to take eBay shipments to local FedEx pickup location. You would be amazed at how many large packages it will hold. If you fold down all the seats, 8 foot ladders and pieces of lumber will fit inside with the rear hatch closed. I installed a hitch for a trailer, which allows me to transport items like 4 by 8 sheets of plywood that will not fit inside the vehicle. The seats can easily be removed but they are difficult to reinstall. There are some cute features that most people will never use such as a shelf that can be set up as a picnic table or for tailgate parties and a mesh bag to hold small items.

I have taken the Cruiser on a couple of very long trips. It is comfortable to drive and does not wear you out like some cars. Gas mileage on the freeway runs about 26 mpg. There have definitely been some problems. All were covered under the warranty (except the tires) but it is always a pain to take the thing back to dealer to have them fixed. The hood release cable broke making it necessary to use a screwdriver to open the hood. There was a noise when turning the steering wheel requiring the entire steering column to be replaced. I took it back several times for a rattle under the front end. They replaced the rack and pinion but that did not solve it. On about the fifth trip back, they finally replaced some suspension part that cured that noise. It seems that the noise may be returning and the car has less than 35,000 miles on it. I also noticed a noise when going around corners which I assumed correctly was the wheel bearings. They replaced all the bearings in the front. Even though I rotated and balanced the tires at the required intervals, the cheap tires that came on it did not last 25,000 miles. I am used to getting 50 or 60 thousand miles on a set of tires. At about 24,000 the check engine light came on and a chip had to be changed in the computer. Six thousand miles later, same thing and same chip had to be changed again. I do like the PT Cruiser but as you can see it has certainly had its share of maintenance problems.

In the Fall of 2000, I test drove a new PT Cruiser and loved it but couldn't afford the $20,000 price tag. I decided that if I ever found one in the future for under $5000 I would buy it. In the Summer of 2007, I happened to see one on eBay with no reserve. I was the first and 29th bidder. 3271 dollars and a cheap flight to New Jersey later I was finally the proud owner of a 2001 PT Cruiser. I drove it over 2000 miles home to Utah without any problems. I averaged 28.6 miles per gallon during non-stop freeway driving. The 5 speed transmission shifts flawlessly even after 140,000 miles. The peppy little 2.4 liter engine will do 60 MPH in second, 80 in third and there are still two more gears to go after that. Once while merging onto the freeway I checked the speedometer and realized that I had gotten it up to 100 MPH and was still accelerating. I quickly slowed it down to the legal speed limit but smiled knowing I had just purchased a really nice little hot rod.
I am six feet tall and can ride as comfortably in the back seat as in the front. The leather seats are very comfortable, even after 48 hours of near non stop driving. The doors and rear hatch all close with a nice solid sound and don't leak. The power sunroof works well and doesn't leak or whistle. All the power windows work flawlessly. The air conditioning and heater both work equally well. The factory RAZ model cd/cassette/radio is awesome. With the equalizer adjusted right it sounds as good as any other stereo I have heard. The kids think it needs more bass but I don't. The suspension is very tight and a little bit harsh on bumps but it corners like a brick with almost no body lean at all. Chrysler really did their homework on the PT Cruiser. Everybody I show it to really likes my new car. After they ride in it, they like it even more. Before, they seemed to think of it as being a much smaller car than it really is. They are impressed with its roominess, comfort, and of course, its power. Now my wife wants me to find her one too. Only pink. She finds her Grand Caravan boring after driving the PT Cruiser. Thanks Chrysler, keep up the good work!

The car gets great gas mileage. Interior fit and finish is excellent. Vehicle is roomy and engine has good performance for a four cylinder. Use it to commute to school all highway driving. Good creature comforts with a nice stereo system. Handling is tight and responsive.

We like the extra headroom. The fold down rear seats gives you extra room to haul things. The gas mileage is pretty good. There are different models to choose from so you have a variety. I don't particularly care for the chrome wheels. Some of the chrome is peeling off already. We decided to buy it because of the above reason plus the reasonable price.

I bought the car first because I needed good transportation. When I arrived to pick it up I was very impressed with the way it looked. It is really a classy looking car and I love it!!! I can't think of anything I don't like about it. The color is great, the leather seats are great, it drives great, and it's really good on gas, AND the price was right. Who could ask for anything more??

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser: How's your paint???

I bought the 2001 PT Cruiser Touring Edition in 2001. I have to admit that it's probably one of the best vehicles that I've ever owned, however, there have been problems. The most notable is the paint. My Cruiser is Patriot Blue and the paint is flaking off regularly. It seems that every time it rains, the car gets whiter and whiter. The paint is actually peeling off !!! Is anyone else having this problem??? As far as comfort and performance, I have no complaints, but you shouldn't have to repaint your car after only 7 years, especially if you take good care of it.

Our trade-in was a 1995 Dodge Avenger. The PT Cruiser was an excellent upgrade. I am 6'3" and my head rubbed the headliner in the Avenger. The PT has great headroom. The Avenger had one cup holder in the front, and my wife and I would almost fight for it. The PT has 4 holders within easy reach of either of us. The PT has easy access to the back since it is 4 door, so the grandkids are easy to strap into their carseats. The access to the rear cargo area is great with the huge hatch, but my wife likes the package shelf that hides the contents of that cargo area. The flaw I noticed is the engine compartment. I can't see the belts. I can't see much at all, it is so small. If it doesn't break, that will not matter. So far so good.

We bought our PT new in 2000, one of the first out of the factory. It has been an extremely reliable car, especially considering it was the first of a new model. The few minor complaints we have were not the fault of the car, but the service at the original dealer. We finally have another, considerably better dealer, La Brea Motors in Los Angeles, that is very attentive and competent. We have about 85,000 miles on it, and everything works perfectly, with no serious problems...the engine, transmission, cooling system, AC, stereo, have all worked flawlessly, and the interior coachwork has been comfortable and durable. Only complaint is noisy brakepads, though they DO last a long time, and get quieter as they warm up with use. The clear coat paint has also held up well, and it is a RED Car..not my choice...my wife HAD to buy it off the showroom floor, and it was the first car the dealer received. Mixed driving gets 18 MPG, partly because the car is rather heavy for its size, open road driving improves to about 25 MPG, but it takes regular. Slow off the line, but very quick on grades when it revs happily, kicked down into 3rd gear and can keep up with the fast lane traffic. No question...this car is a little bit kooky, a little bit spooky, but my wife loves it, though our three sons say no thank you to any offer of the car as a hand me down....too much of a dorkmobile!
