The 2007 "new body style" is the best Engineered chevy truck I've ever owned. I have the Extended cab LT package Silverado which comes well equipped. I chose the 5.3 liter engine because of the performance of torque/horsepower/gas mileage. GM seem to be flooding the market with the 4.8 liter engines and I can't understand why. The 5.3 engines are "in my opinion" superior. The only problem I noticed is a sluggish start whenever your running the AC. I tested all the gas powered equipped trucks up to the 5.3 and that seems to be the norm for these trucks. But it's very minimal and most people wouldn't even know the difference. Check out the engine specs, test drive them and make your own decision. Transmission feels strong with smooth shifting. Handling is greatly improved and the turning radius is somewhat better that the older models. They could still improve on this.
Reliabilty depends on how well you maintain a vehicle. If you follow the manufacturers recommendations for maintenance you really will benefit on any vehicles reliabilty.
Overall the comfort is excellent. The ride is stiffer than older models, which I like because it feels more like a truck, but it still is better than most other trucks out there. I like the seats and the lumbar support. I drove for a 10 hour trip when I first purchased the vehicle and at the end of my trip, my back was pain free. I also liked the cruise and radio controls on the steering wheel, it helped to keep my eyes on the road. I was never a big fan of stock radios but this one seem to be adequate. All instrument dials are easy to see and I liked the extra glove/storage box in the dash, and the extra cup holders in the door. The best improvement was the blower on the AC, the first time I put it on auto, when that fan kicked in it scared me cause it was blowing so hard. I had always been disappointed with GM's blowers, they were way to weak, but the new models are excellent.
Overall the quality and craftmanship is great, however, I dinged it because it has some blind spots. And the rear is up too high which makes it hard to see. I may actually try and level the truck with after market brackets.
I hate drum brakes and would love all wheel disk brakes. However, drum brakes are better for boat haulers that dip they're rear wheels in water while backing in their boats. Personally I also don't like looks of the front bumpers of the Chevy vs. the GMC models. However, I saw one tore down in a body shop and they make good sense. The corners are seperate pieces, so if you damage one of the outside corners, which is usually the case, you only have to change the damaged piece and not the whole bumper. Very practical engineering. I liked the placement of items in the engine compartment, everything seemed to be well thought out, even the extra battery deck is a good touch. One thing I didn't like, on my truck anyway, was the lack of an engine compartment light. They come in handy when your vehicle gets up there in age. For the do-it-yourselfers, the undercarrage offers easy access to the oil filter and drain plug. I also liked the fact that they put easily accessable cannon plugs for light/trailor light connections. If you ever have to replace/remove your rear bumper, everything is plugged into as small panel under the bed with quick release harnesses.
Overall, in my humble opinion, this truck is the best GM has ever engineered. I Love My New Chevy!
