My First Impala. Long and lean. Like a dinosaur with class. Very comfortable and cool. Can't wait to hit the open road. This has the straight 6 engine so it starts right up nice and easy. Not a powerhouse of course. Very Kool.

1959 Chevrolet Impala: An absolute dream come true for the Ol-man

Yesterday I turned 34, and when I was a child all I remember is my father talking about a 1959 Chevy impala 4 door hardtop with those "Cat eyes" as he called them. That was his dream car, I laugh now thinking back on his comments of if he ever won the lottery he would call General Motors and have them pull out the old dies and have them build him a new one. Well that never happened however I always told myself that when and if I could I would buy my father that car. This past holiday Season I was fortunate enough to come across one through a great ebayer (vwchadly)sure its a project car however I'm incredibly pleased with it. More importantly the Ol-man loved it and was speechless. He did manage to say "I dont know what I did to make you love me so much"......Chadly I thank you very much.

As I said in my review, they don't make 'em like they used to. This car screams both quality and stunning beauty in every inch of its winged, chrome laden form.

1959 Chevrolet Impala: Draws a crowd

01/15/08
• Overall Satisfaction:
Maybe it's just a wild style, or maybe just because it looks like a factory custom. But the 1959 Chevrolet simply looks like nothing else and draws a crowd no matter where it's taken. I regularly meet new people at the gas station because of my `59 Biscayne. Often the story involves how "Aunt Pearl" had one when the person was growing up. It's great fun to hear the connection people have to these cars. Go to a car show sometime, and after looking at the lines and lines of `57 Chevys you can go to the next row and see a couple of `59 Impalas that usually have a crowd around them.

The price of being unique however can be high. 1959 Chevys are prone to rust in many areas; in fact, a large percentage of them were in wrecking yards by 1970 because of rust. That aside, they are mechanically simple to fix, mostly reliable, and generally trustworthy. My `59 Biscayne has gotten our family out of a number of transportation jams, despite the fact that it sits most of the year...outside. You just can't beat the reliability of a rear-wheel drive U.S. built car sometimes. 1959 Chevys deserve honor among classic cars that they don't receive. Most didn't survive because of the popularity of other years, making these ones throw-aways. The ones that are left, now nearly 50 years later, all should be considered true survivors and treated with restorations - despite the number of doors they have. If you find a solid one, refurbishment is a lot cheaper. Impalas are now way too expensive now for regular people, unfortunately. Four door `59s are currently a great value and worth looking at as family-friendly classics.

This car is worth considering if you're looking for something that is unique and simple to repair. Just find a clean one and enjoy the drive. It's as simple as that.
