This vehicle is too rare and unique for a general survey. The seller was honest to a fault. He called the paint a 5, most others would have described it as an 8. He never mentioned the fiberglass was all original, and appears to have never been damaged. The original K-66 Transistor Ignition system is still as it was when leaving the Corvette factory in St. Louis back in May of 1965. The fact that I got in the car and drove it 1,200 miles home without incident speaks volumes for a 44 year old big block Stingray. This 48 thousand mile Stingray Convertible ran as smooth and and powerful as though it were new. Yes; this car is a Real 396 Stingray. I helped the National Corvette Restorers Society to write a few judging manuals. Many of our cars have been featured internationally, as well as in almost all of the better known and respected Publications found on newsstands everywhere. I tell you this not to blow my own horn, but to qualify this next statement. WE have purchased some of the finest Corvettes on the planet for both ourselves and others, that respect our opinion/knowledge. Recently I was sold (sight unseen) a vehicle that was grossly misrepresented. Those events cause me to better appreciate running across an honest seller, and a real original unmolested specimen..
This 1965 Corvette Stingray Convertible is widely recognized as one of the most desirable mid-year (1963-1967) Corvettes, due to it's 396 cubic inch, 425 horsepower engine. This was a benchmark event in automotive history; as it introduced the "Real" 1st "Big Block" Chevrolet engine to the world. There were very few of these built and fewer still have their CORRECT engine. The engine that was sold to me along with the big block currently running in the car, is actually the correct numbers matching 425 horsepower 396 for this car. It was offered as a separate item, to be sold well above the final bid in this auction. Without a doubt it is 100% correct for this car!. To describe this transaction as anything short of stellar, would be less than honest. The provenance alone was worth something. By that I refer to the pedigree that accompanied the car, with Charlie Sheen and Louis Arias as the last two owners of record before Mr. Stockton.
In closing I'll state for the record that I'm stunned, happy, completely satisfied, and feel truly blessed. Having met some incredibly nice, honest, genuine human beings at this time of year can help to reinforce a persons faith in mankind. Today is December 25th 2008. I'm a believer in many more ways than one. I stand before you today to proclaim that there is not only a God...Jesus heard my prayers and hooked me up with the aforementioned deal on eBay, for reasons yet unknown...to me. I can almost hear the scoffers now, no problem; God is everywhere...Even here on eBay.
