1969 Chevrolet Camaro: Purchase of 1969 Camaro

03/02/07
• Overall Satisfaction:
I've been looking for a 1969 Camaro that would be more than just a daily driver yet not a show car. I'm in a car club and already have restored a 1958 Chev pick-up so I know a little about what makes a decent quality car.

The seller advertised the features of the car but provided little information on the condition or functionality of the accessories. He said be "was all over the car" before he purchased it. He also stated it was a good driver and had newer paint. He did state the dash board padding needed replacement. I would have preferred to have the car inspected by a third party but only hours remained on the auction so I submitted a bid based on the telecons with the seller.

When the car arrived we had trouble starting it. I took several days of trouble shooting to figure out that a least five vacuum lines affecting the engine had been cut or disconnected. Also the carburator was fouled and required cleaning. I also discovered the seat belts were missing, as was the horns. The doors that close over the headlights did not operate properly - they would open but not close. The alternator and temperature warning lights are inoperative. The trunk collected water when I washed the car as the rear tail lights had been re-installed without gaskets.

I asked the seller about the missing seat belts and he stated that a car of that age in Michigan did not require them. He said he would try to find some used ones and send them to me. I felt they should have been added before the sale as it is factory equipment and also a safety issue. It will cost around $250 to replace the seat belts.

Prior to shipment of the car from Michigan to Arizona I asked the seller to insure that all the fluid levels were topped off I case I decided to drive it to my house (about 80 miles from Phoenix where the car could have been dropped off.) I decided to pay extra to have it delivered to my house and a good thing I did. The power steering unit was bone dry of fluid. Also the motor oil was pitch black indicating it was overdue for a change.

I gave the seller a positive rating based on my first impression of the car after delivery. If I had it to do over I would give him a "Neutral" rating as he was not as straight forward with the condition of the car as he should have been. My regret is I did not have a third-party inspection. That report would have probably kept me from bidding. The car will take hundreds of dollars and quite a bit of time to bring it to a "driver's plus" condition.

The old adage: Buyer Beware is true in this case.

I like the fact that you can go straight to the year model in lieu of searching thru all items when your really only looking for a certain year model.

Well here it goes. You get what you ask for. Here I bought a car from Texas, shipped it to Indiana, even had a close look at the car from a friend near by, and the car is what it is, the seller still has not sent the title..............very frustrating. Just a note to purchasing bigger dollar items. figure in the fact, you might just get shafted.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro: THE PRODUCT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THE SELLER WOULD HAVE FIXED THE ISSUES

I BOUGHT A 1969 CHEVY CAMARO FROM PEYTON FRANKLIN. IT WAS EQUIPPED WITH A NEWER STYLE LS1 ENGINE OUT OF A 2002 TRANS AM. UPON RECEIVING THE CAR IT WAS LEAKING ANTI FREEZE AND THE HEATOR BLOWER MOTOR WAS MAKING A NOISE. I PROCEDEED TO DRIVE IT BACK TO OUR DEALERSHIP FROM THE TRANSPORT TRUCK(IT WAS SHIPPED ON A FLATBED FROM COLORADO TO MISSOURI) AND NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND ONLY HAD FIRST, SECOND AND REVERSE. THE REAR END WAS ALSO HOWLING AND IN NEED OF A REBUILD. ITS BEEN ACOUPLE OF WEEKS NOW AND THE CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP AND WILL COST ME $3,000 TO FIX. IT WAS NOT THAT THE PRODUCT IS BAD IT JUST NEEDED ALOT OF REPAIRS THAT THE SELLER FAILED TO DISCLOSE. I WOULD NOT HAVE SOLD THIS CAR TO ME WORST ENEMY IN THIS CONDITION. EBAY USER PEYTONFRANKLIN RIPPED ME OFF PLAIN AND SIMPLE. WHEN I CALLED HIM HE SAID THAT HE HAD NOT DRIVEN THE CAR IN YEARS AND WAS NOT AWARE OF ALL OF THESE THINGS. HE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 10 YEARS AND DIDNT KNOW IT NEEDED A REBUILT TRANSMISSION, REBUILT REAR END, NEW HEATER CORE, NEW SHOCKS AND NEW BLOWER MOTOR??? YEA RIGHT. I LEFT HIM NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BUT HE COULD CARE ALESS AS HE SOLD HIS CAR FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS MORE THAN IT SHOULD OF SOLD FOR WITH THESE ISSUES.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro: In over 10 years as an ebay member, this is the WORST experience by far.

This Auction is for a classic car, and states "two year "body off restored", everything new or rebuilt. You would expect to basically get a new car if you believe the statement. Well what I got was a poorly assembled collection of parts that I have spent over 100 hours and $2000 disassembling and reassembling correctly.
Here are a few of the issues
1. The rearend had no grease. When I removed the cover to inspect the gears I found that 2 of the bolts had been twisted off and just rtvd in place.
2. The steering colum had only 1 nut on the joint and it was loose.
3. The frame crossmember had been installed incorrectly with only 2 of the 4 bolts installed and they had no locknuts on them. just jammed into the holes.
4. The last straw was when I found rust holes in the frame. there was no mention of this in the auction. I was sick when I discovered this. I called the seller. He will not return my calls. I have submitted a VPP request to ebay (7/8) have gotten no response. I have photos of the rust through and the weld around the shock mounts. Oh yea, speaking of that, did I also mention that the shock was not bolted to the frame? The holes will not line up.
So, you want to know about my experience buying a car on ebay??? Not a good one so far. Again, I have taken photos showing rusted frame holes in this car. The seller withheld this information as he could not have done a "frame off" restoration and not seen the rust.
The first question I asked the seller was about rust as I am from the north east. He sad there was none. That in not true.
Can you folks help me out here? Although I have a lot more invested in this car, I asked the seller for only what I paid. He will not communicate with me. Thanks for your time.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro: Money well spent.

I have been looking at late 60's Camaro's for a while now. I have always loved their stance, clean, wide, powerful and all American. I found mine and it was exactly what I wanted. I reviewed the pictures (which were excellent) spoke with the seller (who was straight forward and awesome) The shipment was flawless and easy. When it was unloaded from the truck I guess I was expecting to be happy with it and maybe find some hidden or unmentioned flaws. But to my amazment it was beutiful, I had been told of the weak points and I guess in my mind I expected worse, because they were hardly noticable. The car I thought I was buying was an 8 but it is most definitely a 9.5
I couldnt be happier. One problem though, everywhere I go I have people approach me in admiration of the car so I always allow extra time when I take it out. Well worth the price.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro: Fraudulent VIN and Seller!

I purchased my 1969 Camaro RS Z28 in driver condition. I spoke with seller multiple times used buy it now. Car arrived and at first glance seemed to be pretty decent condition. Although said to be all original sheetmetal ended up with left quarter replaced and lots of filler in right side. Worst of all, after checking the hidden vins I discovered that the hidden vins did not match the vin on dash and title. Also discovered it was not a real RS Camaro as it was missing all the components for an RS. Unable to get seller to call me after attempting contact on many occassions. Filed a complaint with Ebay as the purchase was covered with buyer protection. I am told I will be receiving a refund for my purchase to include shipping.
