2003 BMW 5-Series: 2003 530i Sport 5sp

01/02/08
• Overall Satisfaction:
Fantastic well made car, best overall reliability rating for any European car. Performance of the 530i is significantly better than that of the 525i (which I also own) and the Sport package is a must. There are known weaknesses that one should be aware of prior to purchasing - cooling system, window regulators, final stage unit, display pixels, but most of this stuff can be addressed prior to failure or is relatively minor problem. Maintenance and repairs are not cheap, but are in line with any other German car. These cars require care and cannot be treated like a Honda or Toyota. The drive is amazing, interior finish/fit very well done, and overall very comfortable. With proper snow tires, this car also does very well in New England winters (stability control is excellent). No real dislikes, many complain about lack of adequate cup holders - not an issue for me.

2003 BMW 5-Series: Nearly perfect transportation

04/21/08
• Overall Satisfaction:
I've owned this car since October of 2003. I chose it over the current model simply because of its gorgeous interior. Literally every time I get in my car I think to myself how nice & luxurious it looks & feels (OK, .. forget the stupid cup holders). The ONLY problem I had with the car was a bad coil (ALL were replaced), and a bad seat bracket (Fixed, but it took them twice to get it right). On a 1400 mile trip in May of 2008 I got 25.5 mpg. Mostly highway miles at 75-85mph. Yesterday I was getting 32mgp on the freeway @ 75mph using the cruise control. No fooling!

The only problem will be affording a new one as I can't see getting rid of this car for another two years. Heck... maybe I'll keep it until a good electric or hydrogen model comes out (I should live so long).

The worst part about owning a BMW is driving other cars... nothing else feels the same.... you're spoiled forever.

2003 BMW 5-Series: Used vehicles a risky purchase!

Vehicle was listed as 150,000 miles, but after it was transported and inspected it was found to have over 235,000 miles! Car is being returned and seller has taken over a month to get a partial refund check in the mail. Vehicle Protection insurance is covering most of the balance of my costs but not all. Overall this was a BAD experience and it (fraudulent/untruthful listings) seems to be becoming more prevalent in E Bay Motors.

Hello
unfortunately I did not purchase the car. I was sick and did not have access to the internet therefore I never responded and lost the bid. This was not intentional and due to illness.

Thanks
Michael

2003 BMW 5-Series: 2003 BMW 540iT M Sport Wagon

Although it may sound like an oxymoron to say "performance station wagon", this is exactly what the M Sport Wagon is. 2003 was the last year for the 3rd generation E39 platform. This platform is considered by many to be the pinnacle of BMW handling prowess. The M Sport was the top echelon model in the 5 Series Wagons. Few M wagons were made and that makes them quite exclusive. Most were extensively optioned. My particular vehicle has 115,000 miles but looks new. Power and handling are excellent as is the fit and finish. I always buy used cars but this is the first vehicle that I have purchased where every button, switch, light, option works, bar none.

Please note that the listing under the said is was covered by the $ 50,000 VPP
This was certainly a FRAUD seller and you can check 230487977419 and there are too many discrepancies ...Oil change every 2000 miles than another one every 2500 miles. This guy belongs of EBAY and in jail...

Your message to the seller:
"You said there where receipts for work you had done in the glove box when I picked up the car...after further investigation I find that there may be FRAUD involed. Riley's Garage shows that this car was there on 1/26/10 But you stated that you purchase the car in LATE LATE February 2010..On 2/18/10 the car was there again 69928 miles and again on 3/10/10 69928 miles ....THAT means the car never left the garage or was hauled by a car transport to who knows where ?? So Riley's Garage had the car for 3 weeks in storage ???? Then on 3/30/10 back to Riley's with 70000 miles. Means the car was driven only 72 miles in 20 days upon arriving to Riley's Garage. Would be interesting to the State Prosecutor if these items that I have receipts for are accurate."

Your message to the seller:
" I had 2 people look at it and they said the seats must be original because they look like the car had 173,000 miles on it.. And why was there a quart of transmiission fluid laying down near the front??? Additional if the car was serviced for this spring they never ever clean the air filters. Question how could your ad have 6 owners if only the girl, her parents and you were the owners?????Talk about being a Christan ... It is very apparent to me and others that you have misrepresented the AD and made untrue claims. "
Jul 13, 2010 at 12:13 PM You have responded to the seller.
Your message to the seller:
"Some general question about the car. May 6 the car shows 77188 miles You advertised the car at 72000 and yet the vin shows on June 21 69000. How could the car have less mileage 8 weeks after June 21.?? You stated when I called the car had Premium Pkg, Cold weather Pkg. Rear air bags, Multi disc cd player, 5 speed AT Steptonic transmission. Would you please confirm this. What about the tires ? More than anything was is the current mileage today??? Thanks Robert Do you remember this??? Plus your add says all the bells and whistle, a couple small minor scratches that can be buffed out..how about 2 major scratches 17" long each.. with 1 painted over too high the damage. The computer is not working at all, no cd changed and the button you said your son push that heated the seat instanly is for the A/C. Hot seat I don' think so ..the car was never built with heated seats per the local BMW dealer. The engine is missing the lower front engine pan is dripping oil all over my garage. "

2003 BMW 5-Series: 2003 BMW 525iT purchased from RLB Auto Group

07/26/09
• Overall Satisfaction:
This was quite a find. I had almost given up hope of finding a good BMW wagon in the US. Then I found RLB's listing for the car online. I spoke with Brian and he worked to get the right price for the vehicle.

The only downside is for those flying in to view/purchase the car, it is a ways from DFW. However, they have a local lady that can pick you up at the airport and bring you to their business for $60.

2003 BMW 5-Series: 2003 BMW 540i

This was a great transaction. I never purchased a car, paid for it and had it shipped all solely on the pictures without seeing it in person. I was concerned about the mechanical condition of the car. Oliver was very professional and trustworthy. The car was everything they represented it to be. I will buy a car from them anytime.

2003 BMW 5-Series: Sick about bad engine

06/11/08
• Overall Satisfaction:
My 70 yr old dad bought this 525i new to replace a Mercedes. He was very happy with it. The car was well taken care of and serviced by the BMW dealer. Needless to say, this car was not aggressively driven (we all know that many are).

At 65,000 miles the car threw a rod. Not covered by warranty. It will cost $12,000 to fix. BMW will do nothing to help. He is sick about it because, now he is on a limited income and was not planning on replacing a car or a car engine this soon. He's thinking about buying a jeep with the unlimited powertrain warranty.

I am sorry that I recommended this car to him. This experience is a real black mark for an auto manufacturer that I had looked up to.
