I bought a Ford Ranger new in 1999 to use to drive and take service calls for the major copier company.
I got it with an automatic transmission and 3.0l engine and a towing package.
I have had a bunch of company cars over a period of 33 years, changing cars about every 2 years.
I decided I would buy my own and lease it back to the company and end up with a used truck at the end of the deal.
I have had Ford and Chevy full size vans, Ford and Dodge minivans, and Chevy Impalas and Plymouth Sebrings.
This Ford Ranger has, by far, been the best vehicle I have ever owned!
4 doors and jump seats in the back and I bought a matching cap for the back.
It still has the original tranny, drive shaft, and U joints that work like new.
Between 1999 and 2006 I put 237,000 miles on this truck!!
I took it in for a front end alignment and the front end was too sloppy. Just too much play.
I did have to replace alot of front end parts cause they just got worn out.
But that made the truck drive and handle like new again.
I carried about 300 to 400 pounds of spare parts in the back all that time and got around 21 MPG.
I had the brakes replaced when needed and regular oil changes.
Other than wiper blades and the regular stuff like a battery and tires it has never caused me any trouble in all that time until................
At 237,000 miles I started to loose engine coolant and finally found out I had an intake manifold gasket leaking so over night a tiny biy of coolant would get into the cylinder and burn off as it warmed up.
It got worse of course and a decision had to be made.
The cost of replacing the gasket on this old engine was around $1100.00.
My local shop said they could install a used engine with less than 80,000 miles on it and warranty it for 24,000 miles for about $2100.00.
I took the new engine and it too has been performing flawlessly for the last 10,000 miles.
I had every intention of driving this little Ranger at least another 100,000 miles or so because I was happy with it's history, the ride, and the over all performance.
But I cam across an offer I couldn't refuse and ended up buying a buddy's F 150 that he was gonna trade in. I got it cheap!!
So I am gonna part with the Ranger but not because I am at all unhappy with it.
Keep an eye for it. It might be on Ebay in a week of so if it doesn't sell out of the front yard.
