What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

1967 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon: I love this mobile

I just love this hippie mobile. The memories from 1967 will forever be embedded in my mind of the neat things this VW was capable of. I've met a lot of tourists who drove these, like McDonalds selling big macs... they were the neatest fad. One bloke from back east didn't upkeep the outside of his Vanagon, but the inside had polished timbers, hard-wood floor, and looks just like a five-star hotel room. (That was in the mid 70's) I recommend this SUV to anyone who loves to be reminded of the good things from times gone by.

Take care,
Blissmeister, Esq.

1978 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon: Bad Busses...A Waste of Time & Money

Let me just preface this with saying that I am a pretty easy going , rational person who thinks human beings are for the most part good, honest people. Over the years, I’ve bought a number of cars online/ebay including: 1957 Corvette, 1965 Corvair convertible, 1993 Toyota Landcruiser, 1999 Mercedes E320 and a 2001 Honda Odyssey. Some showed up nicer than others, some of the other’s descriptions were a little “fluffed,” none were grossly misrepresented.
I purchased a 1978 Westfalia from the VW BUS FACTORY and this vehicle was GROSSLY MISREPRESENTED! What I presumably paid for was a vehicle that “ran & drove great.” What I got was this…
The truck driver drops off at my house, the vehicle won’t idle. “OK, probably just needs a little adjustment.” I inspect the exterior of the vehicle and here’s what it looks like:
Windshield: Poor…permanently fogged and noticeably chipped up…worse than you would find on a parts vehicle. Paint: A quick and nasty job, most of the body work wasn’t even finished when it was painted. Bumpers also painted on the vehicle, and about a dozen runs, some the size of your index finger. The front spare tire cover had blown off during shipping and what is there is a completely worn , flat tire that has steel belts coming through…I deduce was there solely to hang the spare tire cover on. Lots of turn signal covers held on with drywall screws, all side ones inoperable. All four tires are dry rotted.
Interior: Filthy. Many parts broken or missing. I knew the radio was missing from the photos, and had one ordered. Not a shred of paperwork…no bill of sale, no title. I pop the top and try to unfold the bunk, but all there is no hinged bunk board…just the cushion. Both window cranks are broken and someone attempted to fix them with a stapler.
Open the engine compartment…All engine tin is missing. Battery is defying physics by still sitting on a tray that is 90% gone. Mechanic says cylinder #3 has zero compression, motor mounts are gone, one shock is badly bent, needs brakes. About the only thing that works on the dash is the clock. Go figure!
I try to call Beth Osborne at the VW BUS FACTORY and the number no longer works (this is never a good sign). I reach her by email and she says that she wants to work this out but will be gone for a week. She swears up and down that it ran “good” when it left, and it definitely had the upper bunk board when it left. I told her this van is nowhere near the condition described in your ad, and is basically a rolling restoration project. She says I obviously mistook this for a vehicle that was “professionally” restored which are bringing $20,000+. I told her that I know what these vehicles go for in the hobby, and that I received one worth roughly half what I paid. I ask her for $1000 refunded (before the mechanic gave me the news on the compression). So that I could fix things to make the vehicle resemble the description of her ad. She said she would only if I left her positive feedback on Ebay. Thinking this may have been a onetime “oops” on her part, I reluctantly agreed. I then received an email & phone call from a gentleman a few hundred miles south of me who just received a 1974 from the VW BUS FACTORY, which also had a bad engine, poor paintjob, doors that wouldn’t shut.
Whose fault is this? Mine. I should have researched this seller more. I did ask all the pertinent questions in regards to the vehicle and its condition, but what I got back were lies.

1990 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon: Bus or Bust (1990 VW Vanagon)
10/17/09
• Overall Satisfaction:
• Performance:
• Reliability:
• Comfort:
• Quality and Craftsmanship:
This 1990 VW bus carries along the history of the type which started in this country in the early 1950's. I have purchased two [2] other vehicles on eBay. This by far & away was the best experience that I've had. The seller made this a 100 % positive transaction. I can't say enough about his assistance & cooperation.

The item itself [if you discount it's age]is about as close to perfect as you can get. I flew from Chicago, IL. to Richmond, Va to bring the unit home. Before starting the 856 mile trip, I has "Jiffy Lube" do the oil change, check the fluids, and tires thing. Jumped in the van & took off. During the whole trip the van never [never, never] gave me a bit of trouble. The only trouble I encountered was the high winds in the mountains. Having a van is kinda' like having a sail boat. The wind likes to push you along [or sideways]. As stated the van is in close to perfect condition. With the exception of a small tear in the pass. side front cushion, there are no stains or wear spots on the seats or carpets. All doors operated as designed. There is no problem with the large side [cargo] door or its locking handle. The sliding door has a small ding in it, but the seller mentioned [& photographed] it during the auction, so I was aware of it. Of course, you have to remember you only have 4 cyl's back there [it's rear engined], so it takes awhile to build up speed [to take a run up some of the steeper grades & mountain passes]. I was still going around the semi's while doing such. All in all, going down the interstates posed no problem. The only thing I can think of, is the A/C unit, although blowing cold air, probably could use a recharge, that is if you want to make ice cubes from the driver's seat. During the trip home I kept the speed between 55 to 60 mph, and my mileage was a honest 25.67 per gallon: not bad for a shoe box with wheels. There was a high wind advisory out at the time, & the state troopers were pulling the double lenght tractor trailers off the road into the rest areas or plaza's, so there was alot of wind buffeting. There is one annoyance that I can think of, & that is the buzzer that goes off if you leave your lights on or the key in when you shut down. The damn buzzer sounds like a "kiddy" ice cream trucks. You know - the kind that comes around the neighborhood during the summer. I've got to do something about that. All in all, because of this experience, I will most likely buy another one of these{VW Vanagon]. Only the next one will be a Camper type, so my better half & I can do some overnight fishing trips. If you like the design, & can find one that fits your situation [or conditions], you won't be sorry buying one of these. For what you are getting versus the current market pricing this is a real steal, & they [VW} have quite importing them [you can still get them in Europe I understand], so get yours while the gettin's good. Well, "Good Luck" from a former "Hippie" turned Structural Engineer.

I love this vehicle because it is old and has very rare features. The doors on both sides is almost unheard of, along with the moon and sun roofs. The vehicle needs lots of work on the roof but the rest is in good shape with the need for cleaning and general "Help me, I've been sitting for a couple of years." syndrome. I will be extremely happy when enough work is done to drive this baby.

dmac5450 and subterfujion build a beautiful online AI7AI relationship; Jah blesses our transaction as we do what doers do.

The rare and highly coveted trophy 1963 Dead Bus comes from Ms. Mina Harker herself--first wife of Jerry Garcia, the immortal vampyre and Leader of the Grateful Dead Army (LGDA). The 21-window style salutes the heavens in a glorious display of Jehovah's own majestic creation of the sunset, night skies, comets and sunrise.

Purchased on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 1:11 PM; Baiting Hollow, NY from the Mystery Spot of CA, only three hours in difference according to the International Date-line.

A beautiful and conventional convention vehicle, and with a bright-souled driver, Rainbow Gatherings and Universal Brotherhood await all who learn.

When subterfujion was asked if he would do business again with dmac5450, he had only this to say, "In my world, time affects all things, I would still have been purchasing the vehicle, but I would have been in Santa Cruz, CA being donated it into subfuse.org, the Green-Alternative-Peace entity fighting the tyrannical mega-corporation: Subterfujion International Multidimensional, formerly subterfujion.com although known to a select few.

Sir, I would be happy to drive your Xabbalistic Xhariot, Xir.

Bought this vehicle based on the Ebay description from the seller. It is a 30+ year old vehicle and you have to realize that there will be issues. Problems are much larger than anticipated and restoration costs will be prohibitive.

eBay has offered me the opportunity to write a review of this recently purchased vehicle--perhaps an automatic generated reply opportunity implying it was a new vehicle. Well...to put it all in a nutshell: One of my first cars was a '62 VW bus back in the early 1970's. When I saw this one offered relatively locally by a credible VW mechanic, I envisioned this auction as a chance to sort of relive my youth..!

1975 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon: Vw Buses in general
05/19/09

• Overall Satisfaction:
I own a 1975 VW Bus!! I bought it here on Ebay and have had to swap motors months after. These buses are an act of love and LABOR! If you expect to drive off the lot and have it run like a 2009 Jetta ...go buy a Jetta!
You buy these to maintain, restore and preserve German craftmanship. Most are older then me and you will ALWAYS need to sink money in them. My advice is to learn how to work on them or don't get one!! The labor is expensive( 75 an average an hour) and many shops don't know how to work on them.

That being said.....they are easy to work on! An idiot can do it, trust me i did it!lol They came stock with a 1800 fuel injected motor but most have been swapped out or changed to carbs. That's the beauty! These bad boys are cooled by the air so if it's a hot day your car will suffer. You can modify them to hold extra oil and run fans to keep the engine cool. I mean lose your starter and it just takes a push, they can also be power shifted if you lose the clutch.

I proudly own a 1971, 75, 79 camper and 84 camper VW Bus!
They are worth all the grease, oil drops, time spent on jacks, fast cars flying by, waves and cheers from kids! I drive my kids everywhere in it and mine seats 7( option to seat 9 with other seats)

It's a culture not just a car! Peace ,love and vdubs

I have had seven VW busses over the years. From a 1960 double barn door to my latest my 83 w/air cooled 2.0,, A older VW bus is like buying an older triumph or harley motorcycle,, know what you are getting into,, If you do not wrench yourself you are looking at high priced specialized hard to find mechanics to do any work needed,, My latest bus is one of the last air cooled busses ever imported into the states, I found it in a local paper, was a running ad that every week came down a little more,, it was original owner 74k and put into storage for 4 years to be saved for a grandchild,,( he wanted a elcamino he found insted at 16),, The brakes were frozen and VW shop wanted $1200 to repair,,but the owner started and ran every month and changed the oil every year,,he just never moved it,,((DUH)) I got the bus for $800 and did the brakes for $400.. I now have over 175000 miles witha upper motor rebuilt last year,,I get more looks and waves driving my van than being in a new 100k car..
I like the ride and the bigger interior of the vanagon design, but still always looking for that split window I can give a sandrail look to..
Just wanted ta put my two cents in here,,I've sold a bus on ebay but never a buyer,,just be aware of what you are looking for,,and if you are not turning your own wrench and doing the upkeep on a older bus,,just have a big wallet to dip into..
