What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

2003 Porsche 911: 2002-2004 Porsche Carrera Review

The 2002 Porsche Carrera is a very well rounded Sports car. Even though, Porsche went from their Legendary and famous air cooled Porsches to their modern water cooled Porsches, they really didn't refine the new modern water cooled cars until their 2002 model. The first 1999 to 2001 Porsche Carerras really lack in substantial power with their 3.4L engine, which usually starts degenerating after 80-90K miles. The original air cooled 911's would go 200-300K miles if well kept. However, the 2002 Porsches received a 3.6L engine and although the .2L doesn't seem like much, it's power is defiantly noticeable and the performance is greatly enhanced. If one is in the market for a 996 Porsche Carrera, we recommend spending a bit more to get a 2002 or newer Carrera. The difference, especially on a used car, is substantial and the resale value will hold up better on the 2002 and newer Porsches. We purchase and sell a lot of 996 Porsches because we customize them to Wicked-7 Mega Widebody Porsches and we draw from our vast experience in writing this review for the ebay community. Best Wishes, Beau

2001 Porsche 911: 2001 996 Cab

I absolutely love the 911 cab. It is the ultimate iconic auto, and it is beyond fun to own and drive. In a world with little time for enjoyment, the 911 is a priceless piece of perfection that never disappoints. For the money, one would be hard pressed to find any car bringing a bigger bundle of reliability, performance, safety and handling to the table than Porsche. I have owned a 996 Turbo Coupe and several 996 cabs. They all have been incredible. I think additional power, speed, etc., is illusory. I know of very, very few drivers who have the real driving and tactical chops (not bravado) to push any Porsche remotely close to its capacities. Any 911 is the right 911 in my estimation.

A note on buying a 911 with this disclaimer. I am not an ebay buyer or seller. I have no agenda, except being a 911 enthusiast and a PCA member.

1. By a car with pedigree. A car with verifiable ownership, not lease history. Make sure to obtain all service records from day one to date. Service that was not done on time should be a warning flag. Be selective. It will take more time, but the right car is a car that was sold by a Porsche dealer and serviced by that dealer and taken back on trade for another porsche. That is the car of an enthusiast and will not disappoint. These cars are sometimes available from other sellers too. Bottom line is that this type of car costs more and is absolutely worth it.

2. Do not assume a certified preowned means it is of the same caliber as the above. It may not be. The car in issue may have been bought at a fleet auction. Typically, these are all lease cars with unknown pedigrees. Many none pedigree cars are sold as cpo cars. In short, all cpo cars are not equal and do not assume that they are.

3. Have the car completely inspected. Do not rely solely on a carfax in that carfax does not necessarily report unreported accidents. So, if the prior owner had an accident and simply had it fixed on his/her nickel, a carfax may not help. Here, the real answer is having a Pre Purchase Inspection with a micrometer reading of all paint. Everything should be consistent. If not, the car most likely has had paint, a red flag. All alleged maintenance should be verified, e.g. were the belts in fact changed as claimed? Does the oil in the pan look consistent with the alleged last change? Do the numbers match once the car is on the lift? Again, it is a homework exercise. Repairs are expensive and inconvenient, and all certified preowned warranties have gaps. Avoid them by doing your homework upfront. Spend more and get the pedigree car. See number 1 above.

4. If you are buying a 911 with locking wheel nuts, make sure you check the boot to make sure you have the nut you need to use to unlock them. If you get caught with a flat without the unlocking nut, you will have to be transported by flatbed to the nearest Porsche dealer for a master unlock. In some parts of the country, a scary proposition. Again, a little homework upfront (a lesson I learned the hard way with a flat).

5. Read the manuals. The manuals are FULL of super important information. The 911 is a unique blend of art and technology. It can be wrecked by inadvertent faux pas like trying to jump start it off the battery terminals. Know the car and the rest will be bliss.

Happy purchasing and happy driving.

1995 Porsche 911: An air-cooled 993 is the best
11/26/09
• Overall Satisfaction:
• Performance:
• Reliability:
• Comfort:
• Quality and Craftsmanship:
A life long dream for over 30 years and I pulled the trigger in April 2009. I always wanted an air cooled 911 but then was tempted by 1999 and later water cooled versions due to better deals and prices. I now see why the 993 is considered the King of Porsche. The 1995-1998 993 models are priced high for a reason. The experience is second to none, just pure driving excitement from all out performance to just cruising the country roads on the weekend. Look hard for the right car and do NOT settle. The good original ones are getting tough to find. Documented maintenance is very important as repairs can be sky high. Be warned, you get what you pay for. That screaming deal that is thousands less than another similar car may just be waiting for thousands of dollars in repairs. Pay top dollar for that meticulously cared for example and you will be much happier in the long run. The reliabilty is excellent and the car starts every time. The seats are comfortable and the leather is very nice as it should be. The ride is not bad for the original stock cars but adding performance suspension parts will change that. If you like modified cars there are many out there but be careful about the abuse factor. These cars are built to be driven hard but constant track time will shorten the life of any car. Cabriolets are generally not tracked but you still want a well maintained car that has completed the recall for the top locking issue. All 1995 models should have gone through the required engine wiring harness recall. Make sure. A HUGE plus for the 1995 model is the OBD1. Generally no inspection problems if your state has one and no CEL issue. Also 1995 models do not have the immobilizer problems found in the 1996 to 1998 years. For just 12 HP difference, 270 vs 282, it is something to consider but certainly not imperative. Insurance is not too bad considering the type car it is and if maintenance is kept up regularly then nothing should surprise you as far as repairs, but when you do need brakes or shocks or whatever, it is pricey. The engines in these 993s are considered bullet proof if taken care of. Oil consumption is normal for these air cooled cars and don't be scared by the overblown weak valve guide issues. Some owners state that a top end re-build is necessary by the 100,000 mile mark. This is not true at all. MANY 993 engines have had zero issues with mileage well over 100,000. Be smart and do your homework before buying. There is a lot to know. Be wary of certain special Porsche dealers that claim to know their business but just the opposite is true. Many horror stories. Read the Porsche 993 car forums on the internet BEFORE your purcahse. These cars are too expensive to make a mistake. Many wonderful 993 owners are out there and they have babied their cars to perfection. Those are the ones to find. The Porsche car owning experience is priceless if you get the right car.

I WOULD RECOMEND A PORSCHE TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN BUYING ONE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON’T WIDOW YOUR WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND BY BEING IN THE GARAGE ALL DAY AND NIGHT ADMIRING YOU NEW PURCHASE, LIKE I HAVE AND THIS ISN’T MY FIRST ONE (OVER 20). THEY ARE A WORK OF ART. I WOULD LOOK FOR A GOOD 3.0 SC WIDEBODY.

Trully an amazing car. I've had a C2 Cab and it was great.....this however is a much different animal.....it's just so much more power. I would highy recomend anyone considering one of these cars to buy. I've driven many different performance cars, Ferrari, Lambo's and Aston martin they are all fine automobiles but look at the price difference and I think the Porsche is the most for the least.
Just my 2c.

I love the overall craftmanship and performance of the Porsche 911 and won the bid on ebay for my dream ride. Turns out it was a scam by using ebays escrow service and attorney who would hold the money until vehicle was shipped to me from Florida. You know the scam-I'm a doctor in the army being shipped out to Afganistan and need to sell asap.....Also bid on a Porsche in Las Vegas that had the same smell. Did some research and found the same add and pictures identical to ebays posting with phony email on Auto Trader. They copy and flip posting to ebay. I traced the owner by carfax to Powell Ohio and had a great conversation of which he was just informed his Porsche was on ebay????Found out he was the one bidding it up to see how far the scam artist would go, he did sell said car to a local buyer the day before my ebay winning bid.
Buyer beware, can ebay stop any of these high dollar ripoff artist's from posting copied add's ???????

eBay,

I sold my Ford Mustang and decided to purchase another project for my garage. I purchased this 77 Porsche 911S. Not only did I find a great car, but also found a great friend on eBay too. The seller was fantastic to deal with, and we now keep in touch by e-mail. We are getting to know each other, our family, and we can talk Porsche too. What a great experience all around!

Thanks eBay!!

Sincerely,

Warren

1999 Porsche 911: 1999 Porsche 911 Better than Feared

I bought 1999 911 sight unseen. I was attracted to 1999 because it is $10k cheaper than last generation of air cooled and does not have as harsh a ride. As I researched I found that the 1999 had problem with engine failures. The one I bought had a factory remanufactured engine with only 11,000 miles on it and car had 54,0000 miles. Engines also have rear main seal leakage problem and my remanufactured engine hopefully has newer design. My car came to me with check engine light problem caused by P1123 and P1125 diagnositc fault codes. This is common problem especially when air filter has been changed out to high flow after-market. I am working through that issue which is well documented on blogs. I did not have car checked by mechanic, but would recommend it on the 1999s. The car was in better shape than I had imagined, drives exactly like I had hoped, and I am very pleased.

1973 Porsche 911: Vintage Porsche 911's are an amazing investment!

Want to invest in a car that will always gonup in value? Try buying a vintage pre 1974 911. The golden rule is find a car with no rust is the 1st rule. All issues can be fixed rust is the killer. If you can find a rust free 911 to restore you can rest asured that you will have a real winner. I've been buying early 911's on eBay and have found some really rare and pricless items along the way. eBay has been my favorite method of finding those barn finds and has made real money along the way. You can really have alot of fun driving these resly 911's and the folks you meet along the way will be some of the kindest people you will ever meet. So keep serching and you will fond the car of your dreams if you search long enough. Just remember no rust and the rest will all fall into place. Kindest Regards, Telefunken Motorsports

The car color, interior color, and all wheel drive were required features -- all are perfect. The climate control and stereo are incredible -- sweet. The power and drive train are super. It is a pleasure to drive. The only feature that I dislike is the fact there are some things that can only be done at an official Porsche dealer (make a second key), and the closest one to Billings, MT, is 500 miles away.
