Volkswagen Passat

Was told the car had a 'clean car fax report' and in excellent condition - later found out that it had in fact been wrecked and the body needs work.
Very disappointed. Would not recommend purchasing a car on ebay or from global motorsports in Nashville TN.

The car makes lots of rattling sounds on the interior. Picks up and goes very nicely, but often a bit touchy on the gas. I wouldn't buy it again.

The Volkswagen Passat is a family car built by Volkswagen Passenger Cars through six design generations since 1973. Slotting between the Volkswagen Golf / Volkswagen Jetta, and the Volkswagen Phaeton in the current Volkswagen line-up, the Passat has been badged variously as Dasher, Santana, Quantum, Magotan, Corsar and Carat. More recently, Volkswagen has extended its range with the launch of the Passat CC, a 4-door "coupé" version of the Passat.

An all-new fifth-generation Passat, based on the Volkswagen Group B5 platform, was launched in 1996 in Europe, and 1998 in North America. It was significant in that it shared a platform with the Audi A4 (1995 onwards), using the classic longitudinally mounted engine with front-wheel drive. This design harked back to the first and second generation Passats, which were based on the Audi 80 (the A4 is the supersession of the Audi 80 line).

Styling-wise, the Passat introduced a new design language, first seen on the Concept 1 concept car, for the latest generation of Volkswagens, and this was evident with the Mk4 Golf, Bora and Polo Mk4. The curvy lines, heavily raked windscreens, and smooth underpinnings helped give the B5 Passat an very low coefficient of drag, rated at 0.27 (saloon model).

The car featured fully-independent four-link front suspension; and at the rear - either a twist-torsion semi-independent beam axle, or fully-independent suspension on the 4motion driveline. Four-wheel drive was introduced in 1997 as an option for the 1.8, 2.8 V6, 1.9 TDI and 2.5 V6 TDI engines; using a second-generation Torsen T-2 based 4WD system, which considerably minimises loss of traction. The 1.8 litre petrol engine in the Passat and Audi A4 has a lower oil capacity than transverse applications of the same engine (4.6 quarts in transverse, 4.3 quarts longitudinal), and may suffer from oil sludge problems as a result, if not changed at regular intervals with fully synthetic oils. Two transmission options were available: a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic.

Watch out for suspension issues, oil leaks, and ABS/traction control lights (ABS modules tend to go bad very frequently)

Poor seller, have no understanding of some situation that can happend in life. Poor human hability.

We never received this vehicle. Seller never responded to any emails after sale. Very bad experience. As per sellers request we put $300.00 deposit through paypal check and never heard another thing from seller. Had to use ebay insurance which turned out to be a very "Good " expereince. Within three weeks we received our $300.00 back in a check from their insurance. I would recommend when bidding on a vehicle to make sure it has ebay buyer insurance!

Please not: we have sold and purchased many items including vehicles before, be cautious, again, we have had many good experiences, this was the first bad!

I bought the VW Passat for a reasonable price. I've had to have some minor repairs on the vehicle which for the cost and what I paid for the vehicle I'm not complaining. I save a great deal of money on gas and car insurance. I love the car for the value.

I have purchased 4 of these cars through the years. German engineering can be tricky, but if you know a good mechanic and bought one of these that was well maintained, I'm convinced there's no better car on the road for performance, comfort, and just an enjoyable drive. I've owned both variants of this body style (B3 and B4 - some say B3-1/2) and let me tell you a 6'5" man can sit comfortably in the back seat. These were the longest of the large VW sedans (until the Toureg and Phaeton) and the back seat tells all. Unfortinately the sedans have a smaller trunk that some would like (me), but the power and handling characteristics of this car more than make up for it. I prefer the wagon version just because of the cavernous space when you fold the back seats down.

Also the TDI version (only made in '96) gets up to 48 MPG, mine is around 42.

It was a horrible experience. I was ripped off of a $500 deposit and neither Ebay or Paypal will do anything about it. I would not recommend anyone to purchase a car from FRANKLIN AUTO EXCHANGE, FROM EYAD OR HIS BROTHER FRANK. EYAD took my $500 deposit and LEFT THE COUNTRY on vacation. He told me he would give me my deposit back when he returned in a month, knowing full well that a month would go by and he would not be legally responsible. I filed claim within 30 days with paypal and they took forever to reject it and suggested at that point going to Ebay, which said it was too late to do anything.

Reason I bought a VW Passat 8VV 4-motion station wagon rests in the fact that VW stands for people's car and this vehicle is anything but. The Beetle was a peoples car, mass produced and cheap to buy. The Passat is the opposite, a car that excells in performance, comfort, quality of craftsmanship and yes price too if bought new. It is contrary to anything a peoples car would or should be and reason I bought it. A slap in the face so to speak.
I also have a 2001 VW Bettle TDI I enjoy for its fuel economy and surprising road performance. It is reliable due to it's diesel engine but not as comfortable as the Passat. The price I paid for the Passat was reasonable for a 2004 model.
