What it's Worth - Price Range Information
Just Sold on eBay Motors
The Just Sold on eBay Motors price range represents the lowest and highest completed sale price for this vehicle on eBay Motors within the last 90 days.
Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value Range
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The range represents asking prices that typically occur for the vehicle model throughout the United States, not all vehicles sell for the exact same price, which is why the company also offers a value range. By showing both the low and high ends of the range the company can better reflect whether a given vehicle's asking price varies widely or hardly at all. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions. This range includes pricing for used vehicles, not new or late model vehicles.

I was looking for a Karmann Ghia as that was my first car
but I guess I'm not the only on as the KG sells for crazy money
considering it sold next to nothing when new .

But I found that I can still get the Air Cooled engine experience with the
Porsche 914 and for far less money than a KG and the bonus is the 914
is a Fantastic car Handling is Excellent , the targa top comes off
and I can't get the smile off my face

The car is a Bargain as just like when new , the Porsche snobs don't give it any respect due to the fact it's VW powered And the VW people are busy looking for VW cars so the 914 can be had for short money
their loss

914's have a very unique character and feel. First, recognize that they are really Volkswagens at heart. I am on my third one spanning over 20 years between them. Bodywork is fair, very prone to rust. Do not leave out in the rain or snow (and absolutely no salt). Engines are reliable only if properly and regularly maintained. Almost no one will work on them for you, so they are an enthusiast's car only. They are not fast, but handle remarkably like a big go-cart with a pretty good ride all things considered. Heat is actually pretty good - defroster is poor. Cars are noisy inside and weatherstrip and seals tend to leak some when aged. Shifters and clutch are sloppy on almost all models that I have owned, brakes are good, mileage is relatively poor. Headlights tend to behave erratically but rest of electrical system is good. Air pressure driven windsheild washers are not too reliable.
I have found these cars to be relatively inexpensive to own and drive (a lot!) A lot of fun to drive but you won't win many races against modern cars. Still, one of the best cars that I have had the pleasure to own - and I'm not done buying them yet!

1970 Porsche 914: 914 Porsche purchase

This has been my dream car for the past 18 years.
I bought it because of the low price, rust free condition and the stage
the project was in. It requires considerable more work, but it is at
the stage where I want to be involved.
The only thing I dislike is the poor paint quality. Paint is lifting off
in areas and the car will require a new paint job. But, I still would
have purchased it had I known this because it is a rare opportunity.

1974 Porsche 914: Magnificent buggy

I owned a 74 2.0 for about 5 years and loved it.
It was way faster than it had any right to be, and
while in the PCA, I ran it at Watkins Glen, Lime Rock,
New Hampshire, and many autocrosses. The car thrived on
living fast, and on a tight course could run away from
most 911's. Not too quick in a straight line, but who
wants to go in a straight line anyway? Reliable and with
super gas mileage. One of my deepest regrets was getting
drunk and killing (Scarlett). I have tried to replace her
with 911's and 912's etc, but nothing else has her personality.
You must, of course get a really good one and not be afraid
to make it your mistress and spend a bunch of bucks on her to
make her even nicer.

This is a niche car and is only for people who appreciate what it is. An entry level sports car with plenty of zip but not a world cup winner.I like air cooled VW and this is very special.

A true sportscar for little money. Handles good because of the midplaced engine. Only needs a bit more power. I also think it is cool to look at. Improvements to make it perfect has already been started.

I bought this '75 914 for my daughter. It's cute and a Porsche. These were the entry level Porsche and is not a terribly powerful car as it has only a 2L 4 cylinder engine. However, handling is excellent and the gas mileage is outstanding. It's a fun little car and we were able to drive if from Montana.

Since it is a mid-engine car, it's tight to work on, but you'll be able to find plenty of replacement and upgrade parts.

Overall, a great little car that turns heads wherever you go.

Performance: Best handling car in the world, but has issues. Leaking exhaust, that can stink in the interior. Can be like pulling teeth to get it running right.
Reliability: Never been nor ever will be Porsches strong point, but it's a toy.
Comfort: Best handling car in the world. Mid mounted power train, and steering that can turn on on a cats tail, and pop his eyes out.
Quality: is OK for its day. Craftsmanship: If you want to get dumped by a your date, use this car. The flapper boxes stuck on, and the exhaust leaks will give your date bloodshot racoon eyes, with sweat pouring down her sharp teeth. All said and done, you will prefer to be single after driving this neat car. Truly unique, and is an experience to drive. Beware of rust, they were built to be lite in weight. Worth owning, but it is only a toy.

Got this toy a month ago with about 30,000 miles. The key is to buy one that is in great shape unless you like to tinker. Spend the money and get one in pristine condition. (probably spend over $6000 to get a car that doesn't need to be restored) 100% of the time that I have been filling up the tank, I have gotten compliments on the car. (But I have only filled it up twice - that is another significant value prop-great gas mileage) Getting a fun sports car that gets good gas mileage, costs virtually nothing to keep on the road (it's essentially a volkswagon) and appreciates in value is a no brainer. Especially under $10,000.

The only bad thing about these cars is that they rust if you breathe on them.
I don't drive it in the rain, it is covered and stored in the garage until spring. Even then, I plan on washing it with a spray bottle.

One of the best values that you will find on a classic sports car.
You can drive it every day and get 35 miles to a gallon on gas.
Fast and fun.

The affordable Porsche, and the almost forgotten Porsche. In it`s day it was ignored as the poor man`s Porsche till the lowly 924 entered, and excited. It was actually badged as a VW in Europe except for the 914/6 which had the Porsche badges.Mine is the 1.7 engine.Though the smallest it still has plenty of power, and a blast to drive.Handles as well as my 911 Carrera, and gets about 35mpg on the highway.Best of all I can work on it instead of my Porsche mechanic.Easy to upgrade with lots of aftermarket performance, and appearance parts available.Fun,fast for what it is,handles like a race car,and is now getting hard to find.A nice example anyway.Surely a good investment if you get one that is not a complete rust bucket. They all rust a little.Keep it up,and you`ll get a great return for your money. They are currently bringing 20%-50% more than they originally cost.I bought mine to keep my 16 year old Son out of my 911,and because I always wanted one.The look has grown on me,and now I actually like the style.Besides,I pass more 911`s than 914`s,on the road.
