1981 Chrysler Imperial: Great Car

06/06/07
• Overall Satisfaction:
Very dependable, classy, comfortable. Fit and Finish is world class. Bumpers were an issue with moisture problems. MPG is in the mid 20's on the highway. I get about 19 in town. The metal used for the body panels is thicker than any other Chrysler and rust prevention was extensive. The orginal fuel injection system lacked a ground wire that was added later. My fuel injection system works very well with great economy for a 4000+ pound car.

1962 Chrysler Imperial: 1962 Imperial ,what a car!

09/03/07(updated 02/26/09)
• Overall Satisfaction:
Style and performance are the 62 Imperial's best two overall points. The 62 Imperial still retains the dreamy glittery late 50s early 60s luxurious charm while having a smooth powerful{413} engine and transmission with handling to match. The 62 Imperial is an extremely well built luxury car that was still using a heavy duty boxed steel chassis. The 62 models consisted of the base Custom line, avail in 2 and 4 door hardtop configurations. The Crown also in 2 and 4dr as well as a convertible model and the almost untouchable LeBaron line with exclusive roof line and other amenities fit for a king.
The 1962 Imperial which is famous for it's free standing headlights and gun sight taillights is quite similar to the 1961 and 63 models. The 61 was a quite a bit more flamboyant with it's larger "gull wing" fins and optional flyte swept deck {simulated spare tire} lid. The 63 was much more toned down and reserved, with a more squared off roof line and smaller much more conservative tail fins and rectangular taillights. 1964 was completely new styling concept all together.
To sum it up the 62, "Americas most carefully built car" is one of best examples of Imperial styling, nice combination of 50s and 60s, and the last truly distinctive "clearly Imperial".

1967 Chrysler Imperial: 67 Chrysler Imperial

1967 was the first unibody Imperial. Chrysler engineers were up to the task (see 1934 Airflow and this model's reputation as a derby car). The engine (the 440) and transmission (the 727) were possibly the most durable available at the time. The standard disc brakes (by Budd) were necessary, phenominal, and revolutionary. The suspension incorporated the torsion bar design developed years before plus rubber isolation by sub k-frame mounts exclusive to the Imperial. Body panels were painted on the inside as well (also probably exclusive to the Imperial), giving them (for their day) superior rust through protection. The public was unaware of the superiority of these cars when they were new. Reviews at the time were lackluster. Current reviews note and praise the huge amount of engineering that was quietly built in. I think that many more would have been produced and sold if the buying public knew how sophisticated they were.

1966 Chrysler Imperial: Finally bought a Imperial

I bought this old Crown coupe because I have always wanted a Imperial since I first spotted what I now know is a 62 Crown coupe when I was a boy. It was a black winged hardtop in need of more work than a young man of fifteen could provide but the style and exclusivness stuck with me until I bought this black sixty six to restore and drive. I am stationed in Iraq for the next 16 months but when I return I will restore the old girl to her former glory. I bought the car because of the rarity and options, condition, and because I always wanted to own a black car I look forward to hitting the road with it someday.

1981 Chrysler Imperial: Great Car, 80s Excess at its Best

05/04/09
• Overall Satisfaction:
I love this car! The 318 engine is one of the most reliable in history. Mine of course came with the troublesome fuel injection originally, but was returned to a trouble free carburetor by the factory. The leather seats and extra plush interior are unparalleled. The extra thick sheet metal and high quality paint show off a very highly stylized body nicely. The real lead crystal bezels and hood ornament really outshine the less dazzling cars from this era. This car is American Royalty, and you will feel like a King, or Queen, behind the wheel of this land yacht!

1992 Chrysler Imperial: 1990's Chrysler Imperial

03/24/08
• Overall Satisfaction:
These are nice ridding big cars, with the backseat leg room of a checker cab. Luxury and around 27 MPG highway make these cars in a class of their own! The 3.8L V-6 is a consistent 200,000+ mile performer. Minor interior design flaws keep me from giving it all 5's!
