2001 Chevrolet Cavalier: good for the price, nice for a drive

cosmetically car has problems including small crack on front bumber.paint has been faded or peeled off in some areas especially on front cover and on top.car has not much fuel left when i bought ,after some drive car was showing "check gauges" message on dash. but it had at least drove 15 to 20 miles and made it to fuel station. after fueling car the "check gauges" message was gone.for the time being car has been doing fairly good performance for a vehicle that is 10 yrs old.car seems to be not overheating also, the scale stays in middle.vehicles fuel efficiency is 18 mpg on local roads when it entered market. but as this age old now it can be max of 12 mpg to 13 mpg(it may slightly vary if you carry load or use A/C)(this is just my calculation only but did not practically proven yet)i am a fairly tall guy and the seating seems to be fine.car is smooth to handle also.i am not a mechanical expert to comment on car's mechanical side but so far vehicle running fairly good.

The seller just sold the car without making any repairs, they added additive to quiet the timing chain noise, needs a new timing chain, bad power steering rack, need alignment, broken hub caps, broken muffler mounts, one tire with little tread, broken headlights covers, etc, now bad engine compression, bad head gaskets, bad rings, need a engine rebuilt, do not buy from this dealer unless you have paid for a test of the car.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier: SPORTY, QUICK, FUN AND RELIABLE...

I have owned my 2001 bi-fuel sedan for 4 years. The car is now 10 years old, has 133,000 miles on it and still looks and runs great! It's been a very reliable car with only routine maintenance costs. I've never used the natural gas part of the bi-fuel system but it's nice to know it is there should I want to once gas gets over $5 a gallon! Plus I understand that the bi-fuel option really adds value to the car which is another benefit. With a few minor upgrades to a K&N air filter, using synthetic oil, and a performance exhaust system that I added within the past few months the car really runs great and sounds good too! Even though the car only puts out 125hp stock it is a very light car for its class at only 2,700 lbs so the horsepower-to-weight ratio is actually pretty favorable. With a few mods like I mentioned you can easily get the 2.2L engine up to 150hp and it is then very competitive in quickness for its class.

The bi-fuel models also come with an upgraded suspension package to accommodate for the slightly extra weight that is added to the vehicle. Some people complain about the stiff ride but it has its advantages as well - the stiff suspension along with the ride height of the car keep it from bottoming-out when going over bumps or railroad tracks like many vehicles do, and the platform is also favorable for rally car should you want to go that direction with it.

I still see a lot of these 10-year old Cavaliers on the road which is a testament to both their popularity and longevity. And I personally love the J-body design, it's a very attractive and sporty-looking car in either the coupe or sedan.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier: 2001 cavelir

• Overall Satisfaction:
It does not have cruise.

My wife drives it 30 or more miles to work, five days a week. We needed a commuter car. It still is not getting the fuel economy it should. We net 27 HWY. It seems to have more ware, than I expected. It rides and feel worse than other vehicals I have driven with twice as many miles on them. I have more small and major repairs to make than I did to a simalr model with 190,000 mile on it. It has issues I have not encountered and I have owned models like it for 17 years and several hundred thousand miles. It has really needed some love for a while.

The price really beat the local market by a few thousand. Lots of small repairs have added up to about that. The picture clarity on these cars helps not tell the story of what you will see.

good luck.
